Ravelston House – EdinburghThis is a comfortable place to eat, and our guest from abroad liked it. The afternoon tea wasn't quite as good as when I've been in before, however. Despite having booked a table and filled in the special request box, no one seemed to know about it. Not even that we'd booked for tea, rather than lunch (judging by how they tried to take our order). The scones were gorgeous, as before. Shame that there was so little cream that we had to ask for more. The cakes were also lovely as expected. The sandwiches were a disappointment, a little dry and only cheese and ham, and not enough cheese for the non-meat eaters (two out of three). I suspect the lack of choice was bad luck, but the number of sandwiches more likely to have been because they thought there were only two of us... Since we'd booked for three, and three of us turned up, it was surprising to find only two teacups, teapot for two, and so on. Also had to ask for more tea after a while, which was actually hot, unlike the first tea. It was still an enjoyable afternoon, despite having to look out for serving staff to ask for more while also keeping a conversation going.
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingBrought my friends from London to have Sunday lunch with our two dogs. Could not have been made more welcome. They had reserved the table we requested and did not mind our dogs sitting on the bench beside us. So many places say they are dog friendly when they barely tolerate dogs. Here you feel the dogs are truly welcomed. The food was glorious. One of us had Scallops with haggis crumb and chips, The other two had Scallop and langoustine risotto. Followed by sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. All of it was a total delight and beautifully presented. I can’t wait to come back. Thanks so much.

Cafe Fish – Argyll and ButeMy Husband and I visited this restaurant twice during our week on Mull. The fish was the main reason for returning. Food is fresh cooked to order. The chef looks to enhance the fish favours. The staff are friendly, quick to meet your needs, informative with humour. I felt it was value for money. We loved it and if on Mull again will return. Thank you. JEN AND GORDON

Cafe Fish – Argyll and ButeMeal of the week! We ate at Café Fish on 11 April 2024. The menu choice was great, with some terrific specials and an excellent choice of wines. Service was spot on, with everything served promptly and a couple of checks (though not too many) to make sure things were okay. Atmosphere was convivial, with a nice buzz of conversation. I can recommend the seafood in a version of bouillabaisse. Definitely the meal of the week for our stay in the west of Scotland.
Cafe Fish – Argyll and ButeJust wonderful! Fabulous fresh seafood served with cold, crisp Muscadet with a view of the harbour in the sunshine! Such friendly and efficient service with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We loved it and would highly recommend!
