Viceroy Of India The, York(Recommended by Mickyboy)

Stopped in York for my Mothers 60th birthday 12/13 March 2010. Six of us descended yet again on the Viceroy. Prebooked table, good job as very busy at 7.30 on a Friday night. Food still as good as I remember from a couple of years ago. Mixed kebabs, onion Bhajis and fish tikkas for starters, vindaloos, mixed tandoori and vegetable curries for main, naan bread, six kingfishers and two bottles of house wine only £123.00 for six of us. Quality of food excellent even though the restaurant was so busy. All the staff are courteous and friendly. Highly recommended. Next time I am in York I will be back !!

First visit on Saturday night, certainly won't be the last. Excellent food, lovely people & bags of personality. Not cheap but not unreasonable for such a pleasurable evening. Go!

Prashad
Prashad, Bradford(Recommended by C & A)

Mother's Day. We make it a point to come here to celebrate. Minal had put on a special Mother's Day Platter: Paneer Pakoras but being vegan we opted for the aubergine fritters instead; spinach and potato bondas; special vegetable samosas and baby spring rolls. We had a masala dosa and Kaushy's famous chick-pea chole with puris. The sambar was pure ambrosia! It was truly a meal to savour.

Akbars, Leeds City Centre(Recommended by B-sure)

As fantastic as the food and service is at Akbars i must say that you fancy a nice relaxed atmosphere then DONT go here. This place caters for large groups and the dining room can become EXTREMELY noisy when its busy. You may need ear plugs to cope with the noise of everyone shouting over each other. The food is however faultless and service fantastic. If you are in a small group then visit the other Akbars in Leeds, you wont be disappointed!!!

China Chef, Leeds City Centre(Recommended by Bradi)

What can i say. China Chef is the best Chinese take-away in the world. Every dish is cooked to restaurant standard and i am yet to be disappointed (and have been a regular customer for 15 years!!!) The Chilli & Sakt Squid starter is mind blowing, watch out for the chillis though, they are small but pack a real punch!!! The Yung Chow Fried Rice and Singapore Noodles are exquisite as is everthing else. BEWARE!!! ONCE YOU SAMPLE THE FOOD YOU WILL BE HOOKED FOR LIFE!!!

Taylor's Seafood Restaurant, Holmfirth(Recommended by Houghton)

I dined at Taylors Seafood Restaurant last night and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The venue was well laid out with a chic elegance and a clean feel. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, a happy murmur barely audible above the tasteful background music. We were seated by Andrew, and both had a delightful chardonnay, crisp and clean, but a little overpriced. We ordered the fishcakes and the mussels with chorizo. The fishcakes were dainty and well presented, and served with a generic sweet chili dipping sauce. Well thought out on the whole, but I found the texture slightly stodgy, and without any whole pieces of fish. The mussels were perfectly cooked, but the whole dish felt dated and cliche, not as good as similar versions of the same dish I have had elsewhere. The mains came and immediately both myself and and guest felt overfaced. I had the tuna with lamb sausage cassoulet, and I failed to understand the concept of this very complicated dish. Although the tuna was nicely flavoured(if a little overcooked) and was complimented by the tomato based cassoulet, the sausage was out of place, an intruder in anotherwise excellent dish. My partner was going to have the lobster, but felt it to be extremely overpriced considering it was only accompanied by chips. So she had the seabass instead. This was lovely, well seasoned and subtle in its presentation (spoilt only by the size of portion). On to dessert and I had Baileys cheesecake which I found to be slightly runny with a rock-solid biscuit base. My partner was too full for dessert, and had a coffee instead. All in all we had an enjoyable evening, and was very well looked after by Andrew, who amused my partner with his birdlike mannerisms. This is a new restaurant and it seems the concept is not far from being a good idea, should it outgrow its teething problems,
