We enjoyed an evening meal at Grants of Castlegate on the first night of a two night stay in Penrith. It's in a rather un-prepossessing street in Penrith, but once you go in, you are treated to a wonderfully warm welcome from Front of House, Mike - and then you can enjoy the excellent ambiance in the restaurant, as well as their delicious food, service and generally wonderful dining experience! We were just knocked out! We both enjoyed the fillet steaks and because we don't eat carbs in any shape or form, we were given some extra green vegetables to enjoy. I had the prawn and chorizo starter, and my husband enjoyed the twice baked cheese souffle with creamed leeks, both of which to die for. Obviously no sugary dessert, so we enjoyed a plate each of local cheeses - 4 cheeses I think, 3 of which were from Appleby and absolutely delicious - so much so that I went into the local deli the next day and bought some more to take home with us! A wonderful memorable meal. Many thanks to Stephen, the Chef Patron and front of house Mike!
