I had the roast dinner - vegetarian wellington which was sadly disappointing as it was supposed to be brie, cranberry and walnut but all you could taste was mushroom. The trimmings were all tasty, with the exception of the roast potatoes which weren't at all crisp. The pub itself is nice and the front of house staff were friendly and attentive.

Hope and Anchor – Grange-over-SandsWe have visited this pub a few times and the food is always excellent and service great but yesterday we met family for Sunday lunch, the service is always pleasant and efficient which it still was but the food was not up to the standard we are used to here, the plates were cold therefore food not too warm and the game stew was lacking any veg and the nut roast could have had a Yorkshire pudding equivalent and then we waited ages for puddings which were coolish again. Really disappointed on this occasion as we love meeting here.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeService was good and food well prepared and tasty. Quality of the food was very good. It was disappointing that the hand pump beers were all unavailable. Quality of the wine could be improved.
Hope and Anchor – Grange-over-SandsLovely friendly staff who helped make our 40th wedding anniversary meal so special. The food was amazing, nothing but praise from our guests. We will be back next time we are back in the area, highly recommend.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithWe had a very good meal at Lewis's Bistro. We had booked in advance which was fortunate as the Bistro was fully booked. Food was great, the service was friendly too. Would definitely re-visit if we are in the area.

Great for walkers and those that just want a tasty home cooked meal. Thoroughly recommend the beef shin special and gammon but the crumble was something else! A must every time we visit Keswick!
