Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereVery clean and comfortable and very spacious. Bathroom is beyond what we have ever experienced. Menu is limited, but however very well presented and very tasty. The castle is very quirky and has great historical features. No room is the same!! The owners and staff are very accomadating. Nothing is too much trouble. The grounds are splendid and plenty of walks to explore. The poetry trail is one. Anyone that can explain them, I would love to hear!!! Overall a wonderful experience and stay.
The Music Room Restaurant at Augill Castle – Kirkby StephenThis was our first visit - a Friday evening. Much to be recommended and we shall definitely keep it near the top of our regular eating-out list.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithPut quite simply you have to book to eat here, we live in Keswick and booked a taxi to make life easier (the wine is also exceptionally good) and wouldnt hesitate to return again (this was a return visit as well!) The service is brilliant, the food is sublime, the atmosphere I love, small enough to be intimate busy enough to not be intrusive. Perfect. Thank you all.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereHighly recommended, great selection on the menu, staff is very friendly and the food is delicious , we will be back.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithA lovely friendly bistro with delicious food and excellent service. We will definitely return when we are back in Grasmere. Thank you
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereHad a lovely meal here and the scallops, sea bass and rum & raisin rice pudding were delicious. The staff very very pleasant and helpful with good level of interaction. Certainly worth a visit
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereBooked a table here for 7 o'clock . Arrived and the restaurant was busy . Ordered black pudding , chorizo and mushroom starter which was exceptional . This was followed by sea bass with vegetables and finally rum rice pudding with raisins and rum and raisin ice cream . Beautiful . Staff were friendly and attentive .
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereThe change in the Pheasant made me emotional. The Inn Collection Group have ripped the soul out of this former genteel haven. Gone are the lounges and character. Its now just a pub restaurant, no longer an Inn. They have introduced the group redesign and furniture even though it doesn't suit this venue. Food is ok, just pub grub now with sachets of ketchup and vinegar at your table at dinner. The service was good and friendly and our room was nice and spacious. However if you liked it before you'll hate it now.
The Pheasant – CockermouthReally nice atmosphere and the food is lovely with plenty of options for the pair of us being vegetarian. Prices are also very reasonable with a 3 course meal plus a drink each only coming to £55 for us. Waiting staff are attentive and the experience is very comfortable in that we didn't feel rushed at any point. Will definitely be going again.
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleWe thought Grasmere had everything for a small village, as we spent the afternoon visiting the small and galleries. We were only here for an overnight stay and we were looking for somewhere to eat for the evening, most of the hotel restaurants had no room for non-residents, so our choice was limited. We discovered Lewis's bistro at the end of our walk and it was on-line booking only and thought, "Not much chance of coming here for a meal tonight". We followed the on-line instructions posted on the window and were surprised to get a table for 7pm. When we arrived at seven o'clock, we had a warm welcome and there were a number of tables seating two people and we were told to take a table we wanted to sit at, which we thought was novel rather than be given a table not of our choosing. The general atmosphere was very friendly and the service was excellent once we had placed our order. There were no long waiting times between courses. The food was excellent and a good choice of wine and a very friendly waiter. We would give your restaurant four stars. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereExcellent food and outstanding service with a cheeky smile too! Lovely.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereOn a (very) wet October Saturday in Keswick we ran for cover and ended up at the Pack Horse for lunch. Good choice – nice beer and a lunch menu big on comfort food. When in Cumbria how can you look past the Cumberland sausage and red onion chutney baguette – yum! Lovely friendly staff too.
Pack Horse Inn – KeswickHave driven past here many times but never stayed so an autumn weekend here was well overdue. This hotel – or really restaurant with rooms – is in the midst of the Whinlatter Forest between Keswick and Buttermere. It has a well-deserved Michelin star but isn’t in the least stuffy. You can choose between the inclusive ‘standard’ menu which changes every night or the tasting menu for a supplement. Beautifully presented food and top quality. Great walking too in this less-visited part of the Lakes. Recommended.
Cottage in the Wood – KeswickWas looking for a place for lunch in Cockermouth with decent real ales and this place came up trumps. Great selection and we had a lovely meal too in fab surroundings. This place has real character, dating back to the sixteenth century apparently, and it just oozes out of the stone walls.
The Castle Bar – CockermouthOnce again we had a lovely meal with friends, no empty plates
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleFantastic quick service and amazing food. Lots of choice, for vegetarians too! Friendly and attentive staff :)
