Popped in for lunch on saturday after visting Yew Tree Barn. We were impressed with our meals. A rich sheperds pie and Cullen Skink washed down with a pint of Loweswater. The young lady who served us was friendly and efficient. The only complaint was hand cream instead of soap in the gents which made my hands more greasy than before I went in haha!

First visit in 3 years. Really amazed by alterations!

Quite honestly it is worth a trip to Ulverston just to visit Poppies for lunch or coffee and a cake. What a lovely place. Friendly staff, great food and drink. A real gem in a smashing little market town.

Met a group of old friends for lunch here after hearing good reports. Glad I listened to the reports. Food was very good, service very friendly (even with a food throwing brat on our table!) and a great selection of beer. Will return. Only sorry the tight Scotsman on our table was left to give a tip and just left £2 a took the fiver for another round! Sorry about that!

We visit South Cumbria regularly and struggle for a good bar meal. Well we have found it today WOW great food service and surroundings. None of our party of 6 were diss appointed and it was all excellent. Good beer too. Be warned the Burgers are big, and also be warned you'll have to go back to try something else on the menu, we will certainly be back. Fabulous !!

Great place eat in or takeout. Won lots of awards. Love the pies and quiches and the cinnamon twirls!

The Square Cafe is quaint with its roaring fire and its mis-matched furniture and art. The service from the young kids can leave something to be desired and you are better of sticking to old favourites like egg and chips.

The family had a great meal here. The place is under new ownership and looks great. A very professional set up.

Last night, L'Enclume, gastronomy out of this world - you gotta go there...

Friendly and good value for money. The wine wasn't great but overall ok!

Lamb shank was excellent as was the wife's Haddock and chips. Good pint of Dent and friendly locals. A superior Cumbrian pub.

The Crown Inn is a vibrant local pub selling a selection of good wines, spirits, excellent real ales, Italian style coffee and wonderful food. It is unusual in that you can combine an inviting English country pub experience, open fire, a warm welcome from hosts Tony and Becky with fantastic Italian food. Lovely pizzas, pastas are a speciality as well as the range of other delicious foods such as steaks, fish and specials. Try this spot. You will not be disappointed. One visit and you will be hooked. Fantastic lunch, not expensive, superb celeriac pear soup with croutons, homemade bread, interesting wine list available BY THE GLASS,lovely house, friendly people.

A a wonderful time at this awesome lakeland pub last weekend. We plonked ourselves in front of their amazing real fire and ate and drank ourselves silly! A must if in Bowness on Windermere

Enjoyed my scampi, chips and salad at the High Cross. Friendly service and the beer was good too. Next time I will hog the roaring fire!
