friendly staff, great food, lovely harbourside location
Maryport Tandoori – MaryportDidnt like it here, felt like me and my family were in the way and the food was not that clever The staff were very rude and racist
Snooty Fox Country Inn – WigtonPricey, poor service, but great food. If you can put up with the prices and lack of service - ie. if you ain't in a hurry, the food is very nice.
Apple Pie Eating House and Bakery – AmblesideWe were visiting our daughter in Staveley and wanted to take her out for dinner. She booked the Wheatsheaf. I can honestly say that the food was superb, the service excellent, and the overall experience of eating there was an absolute delight. Without going into the full details of what we ate, the venison was the best I've had in years, the fish dishes were fresh and cooked to perfection, starters and puddings mouth watering just to look at, let alone the taste! Wine was perfectly chilled and delicious. As for the service, the people at the 'sharp end' were pleasant, attentive and showed professionalism beyond their years. I would like my daughter to marry one of your chefs - if he's free -as the cooking I could put up with every night! Anyway, one of the best dining experiences I've had in years!
The Wheatsheaf Inn – KendalHad a lovely lunch of soup and a crayfish sandwich at the Brown Horse in the sun. The place is in the winster valley one of my favourite parts of the lake district!
Brown Horse Inn – WindermereWhat a great little find. Great service, wonderful food and a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to escape from Center Parks for a few hours.
Black Swan Inn – PenrithThis traditional inn places a high value on serving good quality no nonsense food with ingredients sourced locally. It has recently won the CAMRA award for real ale for Cumbria. It usually serves at least 4 different real ales mainly sourced from Cumbria and the North East. Highly recommended with very friendly service.
Cumberland Hotel – AlstonSuperb meal with my family. The place was packed (Saturday evening) but we'd booked so no problems. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The Fillet steak was excellent and well priced compared to some places I could mention. Lovely bowl of roasted veg and potatoes to go with it all washed down with nice wine. Any pizza or pasta £3.90 for children..superb stuff. No hesitation in recommending this place to all. It was so nice we went back the following night. A proper Italian restaurant to savour!!
Villa Positano – WindermereThe Briery is a brilliant restaurant to go to!! The service is fantastic with the manageress being really helpful!! The food is superb, really reasonable prices and really yummy!!! I always go there for a meal out!!!!
Briery – WorkingtonI travelled from Essex to Newcastle on business and stopped at this hotel for some lunch with a colleague. We found it easy to stop there as road works were hectic during the time in Penrith, and we were very happy they were there as we found this place wonderful. we normally meet elsewhere but we have now diverted to stopping here as the food was lovely, staff very friendly and overall excellent. we are now regular eaters here and recommend it to anyone wanting good quality pub food.
Agricultural Hotel – PenrithNew to the area and keen to try out local pubs, we have eaten here twice and have been most impressed. The food is locally sourced, freshly cooked - not reheated like the chains - and very well presented. They offer English Lakes ice-cream as part of their extensive dessert menu. Staff are always friendly and happy to chat. Prices are very reasonable for food of this quality. It always seem to be busy with diners in the evening so they must be impressing other people too!
The Stan Laurel Inn – UlverstonWe had our first meal at The White House on Saturday 4th April. The meal was, without exagerration, one of the best I have eaten in a restaurant for some time - the chef clearly knows what he is doing and every course was superb, from the complimentary canapes and homemade bread that we were offered the moment we sat down, to the homemade pistachio ice-cream to round the meal off! Service was impeccable and very genuine. Decor was minimalistic and modern. There are good restaurants a many in Bowness, but The White House has got to be worth a try if you've not been before - we will be going back!
The White House – Windermeretucked away but needs to be shouted about, tasty food beautifully presented and excellent value we stayed overnight in one of the boutique style rooms and enjoyed the breakfast too ! Lovely cheery staff, proud of the local resourcing . We hope it does well, we will be returning but its a long way from berkshire.
The White House – WindermereThe Viceroy is a three times winner of a place in the British Curry awards for 2006, 2007 and 2008! Top three restaurants in the North West. Absolutely fantastic food, superb atmosphere and very friendly. I would particularly recommend the chicken vindaloo - hot but full of flavour! Does a special price meal on Sundays and Wednesdays too. Well worth a look if you're in Carlisle. If you know the area, the restaurant is close to the famous landmark of Dixon's chimney!
Viceroy – CarlisleMy fiance and I ate at Morrels on a wet Tuesday in March. There weren't many dinners (maybe 10 plus ourselves) but this is hardly surprising for a Tuesday in low season! The menu had many good choices and the food was superb! I had a wonderful Potato, Leek and Cheese crumble to start followed by a ribeye steak which was tender, juicy and cooked as requested - and served with a steak and ale pudding! I can't recall what my partner had to start but I know she said it was delicious, as was the fresh mackerel she had for her main course. I can recommend the Cinamon and Apple cheescake - a good portion of an excellent dessert! Our only negative comment would be the tardyness of the service. It took quite some time for each course to be cleared - this can be forgiven if the staff are busy but when they are chatting at the bar?!! Having said that, it isn't worth giving the place a miss for - you'd be doing yourself a mis-service!
Morrels Restaurant – KeswickWe have visited the Spice of Bengal many times over the years and have never been disappointed. The curries are wonderful (and we are from Bradford, the home of curry houses!),very authentic dishes.we always look forward to going. Only drawback is that they charge extra for poppadoms etc. which are always free back home, but hey, it is in a tourist area. Well worth a visit if you like curries.
Spice of Bengal – Amblesidei recommend this restaurant so highly the service is 2nd to none the chef mario is not only flambuoyant in his food but also in his manner the veal is to die for the beer named after the building brewed by hawkshead in stavely is sublime the cocker hoop is not to bad either well done duncan , jannine , agita and dave will come back many times
The White House – WindermereI have eaten at the White House many times. Its my favourite eatery in Bowness. The choice of food is excellent and is always of high quality. It is reasonably priced and the ambience of the hotel is excellent. I recently had the pleasure of holding a wedding celebration for 16 people there and Janine, Duncan and Dave could not have been more helpful or accommodating. Even though it was a large party, (including 2 small children) the food and the service was still of the highest standard. I would recommend anyone visiting the Bowness / Windermere area to pay a visit, They wont be disappointed
