Ate here in April 2008 and was very impressed by the friendly service, the lovely decor and the good Peroni beer. My risotto was good and my friends’ pizzas also looked very tasty.

Francos – CarlislePlease do not book with this restaurant, please read about the way in which they treat the foreign staff and treat them on "Gumtree" it's like reverting back to the 1800's low paid, very very long working hours, and most of all the abuse these employers dish out to the foreign staff is well outdated. Thanks for reading
Cumbria Cafe and Restaurant – GrasmereBeswicks is a rare treasure, a first class gem of a restaurant. Refreshingly untrendy and quaint it is evident that this restaurant has been built on love, pride and good old fashioned customer care and service. I have never been to a restaurant that scores so highly for the overall dining experience. Yes the food was lovely but even more impressive was the attention to detail in so many ways. David is indeed the perfect host and has the place operating like a well oiled machine, yet as a customer you don't feel like a number, you feel that you are being treated to a very special evening. I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough.
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessThe service at Akash was lacking enthusiasm, although the food was up to a decent standard, i much prefer the place across the road - Ali Taj.
Akash Tandoori – WhitehavenWent here after reading a review on your site. Glad I did, I ordered a special for my starter and wow, the monkfish and salmon kebabs were great, perfectly cooked and fantastic fresh flavours, and the wife and kids had a Dare To Share again no complaints, great value which feed all three, Mains just as nice, well worth the money, great staff, excellent food, lovely pub, not been to a more welcoming pub in years. Well done all concerned. its a credit to you and your town. Will Be Back.....
Old Farm House The – UlverstonFantastic food and great service. Great place for a family/friends get together.
Ali Taj Restaurant – WhitehavenFood is ok but service was a let down. Not the best evening for me. Prefer the Ali Taj.
Akash Tandoori – Whitehavenworst italian I've ever been to. Service was terrible, Salmon was from a tin and the price was not reflective off the poor overall experience... Sorry, but definately one to miss!
Casa Romana – Whitehaven – WhitehavenProbably the best bistro in Grasmere. No silly prices, excellent choice and a good, friendly host.
Saras – GrasmereMy second visit to this Restaurant in the heart of Broughton in Furness The atmosphere was outstanding and as it was our wedding anniversary it was a special evening. The starters local smoked meat and an interesting vegetarian salad mix expertly presented followed by Their duck with rhubarb and ginger sauce and quail both perfection and the sweets were to die for. The website does not do it justice. We have eaten in all the pubs and local eateries and this surpasses all! The prices are incredibly low comparatively too. Just a tip! if parkings bad in the Square area, park in Foxfield road there is often a lot of space there. This place is thoroughly recommended.
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessWent to this place on Guardian newspaper recommendation Very good but pricey for a pub. Stunning location and great base for a sunday walk and sunday lunch
Blacksmiths Arms – Broughton-in-FurnessBully Of a Landlord Bad Manored Landlady Kitchen kneeds Complete refit.
Strawberry The – Barrow-in-FurnessI recently ate at the Wheatsheaf as I had heard of their new talented Head Chef. I found the restaurant contemporary and welcoming with a great atmosphere. The menu had plenty of choice with a delightful specials board. I was pleased to see that the menu consisted of a variety of local produce which rivaled many other restaurant that market themselves purely on this aspect. The food itself was divine: well balanced, wholesome, exciting, presentable and extremely tasty. Overall I could not fault this excellent gem in the heart of Cumbria.
The Wheatsheaf Inn – KendalMy favourite place in Barrow to eat, fast and friendly service and the food is excellent. Garlic bread to die for.
Salvanas – Barrow-in-FurnessThe best restaurant I have ever eaten in. Makes glad I visited this country. Mike Pittsburg USA
Overwater Lodge The – AlstonI wish i lived in Brigsteer, a beautiful village with a fantastic pub....having read in The Daily Telegraph that The Wheatsheaf was in the best 50 pubs in England & wales-best for food(cumbria) we decided that we must visit on one of our frequent trips to the lakes, and we wasn't disappointed...great people, truly great food...definitely gonna return(soon!)
The Wheatsheaf Inn – KendalWhat a pretty setting in the centre of this tiny village. Excellent real ale beers and a warm welcome. We stopped for a light lunch sitting outside in the rear beer garden. Food was reasonable quality, chile and a very nice beef sandwich but frozen chips!! Why? It was a lovely sunny day which no doubt enhanced the visit but would call again and maybe try the evening restaurant menu.
Three Greyhounds Inn The – ApplebyWe went to Amigos Mexican and Steakhouse in Ulverston on Friday 30th May, we were a group of 14 and were extremely well accommodated. The service was very good, all the wait staff were extremely polite and helpful. The food was delicious (try the mushrooms to start) and was piping hot when served. We pre-ordered all the food as there was so many of us and on the order I wrote everyone's name against the meal they had ordered and when the meals came out the staff simply said the name of the person who had ordered the meal which saved a lot of confusion from people who had forgotten what they ordered. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, it has a great atmosphere and the bar downstairs is very nice.
