We got a small salad and some bread to pick at while we waited (and we did wait quite a long time, unfortunately.) I have to say the salad was quite wilted and starting to go brown but the bread was nice with sesame seeds sprinkled on top. We had 4 starters between us: cheesy mushrooms, creamy mushrooms, hummus and olives. All were lovely but the creamy mushrooms were absolutely amazing! Huge portion too. You could easily share this starter. I would have liked some extra bread to mop up the sauce. We had 2 children’s mains - the unavoidable chicken nuggets for one and pizza for the other. It went down without complaint so I guess it was ok as far as kids’ meals went but I would like to have the option of smaller portions off the main menu options for children. They would have liked chicken wings, lamb etc with rice but it wasn’t an option and we weren’t going to buy large adult portions for half of it to be wasted. I had chicken wings which were simple but delicious. The rice, however, was almost slimy and appeared to have little pieces of noodles mixed in which was a bit strange. Again, the salad was sparse and didn’t look very fresh. We were served an incorrect meal for my partner so he had to wait for the correct one to be cooked while myself and one child had ours. My other child seemed to have been completely forgotten about and didn’t get hers for quite some time so we didn’t really eat together which was a bit of a shame. The service was chaotic and pretty poor with the wrong drinks being brought, wrong food being served and forgotten and my partner’s drink that we ordered half way through just not being served at all. Apparently a lot of staff had called in sick and the manager had been in hospital the night before so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. The surroundings are pretty scruffy to be honest. It needs some investment. Chair upholstery is peeling, the tap in the ladies was literally in half and hanging off and there was no light in the gents at all. I’d get takeaway from here again but I won’t actually eat in there unless the owner sorts out the environment and service.

Very good food and service. Lovey comfortable atmosphere even for a busy Boxing Day. I have only given 4/5 for the food simply because there were 4 items that were unavailable from the menu. The food that was prepared for us was lovely.

Booked the Whitchaff for our Christmas Eve meal because it’s a lovely, friendly place that serves excellent food. The special menu varies with its normal menu on offer aswell, it has everything covered depending on what you fancy, plus the service by all staff is brilliant. I would recommend The Whitchaff and will be definitely visit again soon. Thanks!

A really brilliant experience to dine at The Lunesdale Arms. Really excellent food and wine, brilliant service from the attentive and friendly staff and a welcoming and wonderful atmosphere. A joy!

We love the 3 Millstones and visit regularly. The food is always delicious, hot and beautifully presented. A cosy, intimate atmosphere and pleasant, friendly but discreet staff.

I cannot praise the team at The Ship enough for the wonderful meal we had on Christmas Day. The staff were great, the atmosphere very Christmassy and the food was amazing. We will be booking next year!!

I visited yesterday eveninv with my partner and our adult children for my birthday..... the food was, as always, faultless..... absolutely delicious! My partner had also arranged a surprise proposal which the staff assisted him with perfectly. I'd like to extend my thanks for making my evening perfect.
