Nila – RawtenstallThe restaurant has nice decor and spacious so you don't feel crowded in by people. Staff were excellent, very attentive, friendly and polite - excellent service. A really good menu, seems these days I struggle to choose even a starter as restaurants over complicate, here had no such problem, a good selection of Italian dishes and to a very high standard. Also good selection of wines at reasonable prices. Is in a nice location, had a window table with a view of the hills, also away from the high st so parking was easy. A good dining experience and my new date who accompanied was impressed with my choice. Definitely recommend. Bob P August 2008
La Veranda – RawtenstallThe best Martini the other side of the Atlantic!, After a five minute discussion about the merits of Ian Flemming and the Italian's bringing vermouth to the States our fast talking barman made my husband his perfect martini, and a pussyfoot for myself. Dinner to die for, service with a smile, and free jokes! Forget formality and just enjoy! (special thanks to Andy and Heather) Absolutely loved it!
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeMitton Hall has everything, visiting on Saturday after a friend suggested the place, with a group of friends we were astounded at the transformation. Welcomed at the front door, we were offered "Cheeky little cocktails" and "Big Fat Gin's" by our enthusiastic bottle throwing barman (our expectant friend was allowed a mineral water!) and our quiet waitress was wonderful and the whole atmosphere had a certain quality that gave the impression we were at a friend's house for dinner. The food in the Brasserie was of a standard far above expectations, and the smiling service continued. Whether it be the decor, the food or indeed the staff, visit Mitton soon. You will not be disappointed.
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeI went to The Wheatsheaf in Croston on a friday night for dinner with my husband about two weeks ago and was really impressed. ... I had the duck rosti for a starter which was on the specials board. The duck had been marinated in Hoi Sin sauce and melted in the mouth and the potato rosti and side salad were also superb and of a generous size. My husband had a ricotta tart for a starter which was lovely. Both of our main courses, Mixed Grill (in most places generous but of poor quality)and Lamb Rump were of superb quality and were good sized portions and perfectly cooked !!!!. We were also impressed with the complimentary, freshly cooked small loaf and fresh butter that was brought to our table whilst we were waiting for our food. The only improvement I could make is that my lamb rump be served with some kind of sauce or jus with the vegetables. Apart from that the ambiance is rustic chic, relaxed and service excellent !
The Wheatsheaf – LeylandWe visited last night for the first time after hearing so much about it. The restaurant was packed and we were lucky to get a table straight away. The atmosphere was very authentic and we liked the way that we could see right into the kitchen from where we were sitting and could see everybody hard at work. I opted for king prawns in garlic, tomato and ginger which were served with rice and salad and were lovely. My husband had mussels in a creamy garlic sauce (both starters were on the special menu) The mussels were cooked to perfection and have converted me! With the starters being so good we awaited our pizzas with eager anticipation, however we were sorely disappointed. I can only describe mine as a sloppy mess which was a nightmare to eat. My husband had chosen from the special menu (smoked salmon crayfish and spring onion) and again although the flavours were good the pizza was spoiled by the fact that the cheese and tomato were so gloopy and would not even stay on the fork. That said we will go back as we had seen some lovely food go out to the other tables - we just won't be having pizza!!
Checcos – BlackburnMy Friends and I had our usual monthly visit on weds, which of course is always looked forward to , and as ever the fab meal we expected was both received and enjoyed, as great as any in spain. The Decor and relaxing music add to enjoyable evening
Casa Tapas – RawtenstallVery surprising. The staff excel [generally] at being there without hovering, food is high quality - none of your brown sloppy Indian food here. This is where i take my friends and family when they visit - highly recommended.
King Karai – PrestonWe've been twice since the restaurant opened this summer - excellent both times. The menu has everything you would expect plus some specialities and the food has a fresh - and freshly cooked - flavour you don't find everywhere. Service is impeccable - well organised and attentive without being overbearing. All in all well worth recommending.
The Shampan – Prestongreat restaurant been going for 20 years, and am still seeing the same owner and head chef, great to see that, not many places would be able to, got to be doing some thing right,
Alghero – ChorleyWonderful restaurant. Great service, great food. Especially love the Mexican revolution. We go back time and again and have a fabulous time without fail every time. 5 *
Wellsprings Inn Pendle Hill – ClitheroeAs I work locally, I have visited the Railway on several occasions with colleagues and family and always enjoyed it, however on the last two occasions I have noticed a decline in both the standard of food and waiting time. The first time, in early July, I put down to a blip, but on this occasion, we experienced a 30 minute wait for starters which were little more than assembly jobs (paté, mozarella salad, cheese on toast) and then another 30-40 minute wait for 4 main courses in a restaurant that was about one third full at the most. When they arrived, my husband's cheese and onion pie and my daughter's fish pie were so hot as to be inedible for at least another 10 minutes. My 11 year old son's burger arrived 5-10 minutes after the other courses. In addition, the dishes weren't quite as described on the menu - my 'roast pork chops' were obviously grilled and though tasty were quite tough. The 'beef tomatoes' were unripe salad tomatoes and the fish pie came, rather oddly, with a large slice of bread and butter. The burger was very rare in the middle - I think it had been forgotten about and was rushed out. I did mention the wait and asked the pleasant waitress to convey my comments to the kitchen, but nothing was done about them. Although there are still many positives about this place, I won't go back until I hear things have improved.
The Railway Tavern Euxton – ChorleyTo us, Amelies , which we came across in late June is a real “gem “as the food is truly out of the ordinary which is refreshing in a time of increasing standardisation. We have visited on several occasions, sometimes on our own and sometimes with family or friends and each time have been delighted with the quality and exquisite taste of the food, the thoughtful and innovative presentation by Olivier and the charming and pleasant yet professional service of Annamaria. We are looking forward to our next visit because whilst there will be some dishes which , in a short time ,we have come to know and love there will be new ones to sample as the menu changes frequently.
Amelies – ChorleyTop restaurant, Excellent food, very good service, what more can you want
The Shampan – PrestonVisited the Conti on the opening day and I have to say, what a great job they have done on the place. The food was great, from the freshness and quality of the ingredients, to the presentation and variety on the menu. Will definitely come back and be bringing my friends.
The Continental – PrestonPoor Service and under-cooked Duck!
Holden Arms – RawtenstallI had a fab meal at the Alghero, it was a birthday meal, really enjoyed the night food was very very good (FISH CAKE). Amazing staff very friendly and great service
Alghero – ChorleyWent on Saturday to a new concept that was a first of its kind at Pond a Spanish night, I must admit I wasn't sure as a lot of people try these "themed" nights and they are not very good, Pond however was fantastic, the music superb, the food good, the atmosphere was really lively and we all said we will definitely go back, it just goes to show that the people who own Duk restaurant ( same owners as Pond) really do know their stuff and always seem to know what their customers really want, I just hope that they have another soon its a great venue and i wish them every success, they also had a guy serving Urquell, if my memory serves me correctly it was a Czech beer, delicious, go try it you'll have a great time, apparently they have just started lunch offers, we will definitely be first i the queue .
