Excellent meal which we both thoroughly enjoyed (we had the Lamb rib and Duck breast). Nice drinks too, Friendly efficient service. Good cheesebord too.. Only (very small) "critisim" is that meal is as-is with no potatoes etc... but still plentyful.

Great food and service

If you are looking for somewhere to go in Penrith for a delicious meal, Grants of Castlegate is the place to try. Always a very warm welcome with beautifully cooked and very tasty food. Well worth a try.

13th August. Enjoyed a lovely dinner for three. The starters and main courses were very thoughtfully put together. There were unusual and lovely combinations of flavours. Loved the heritage beetroot salad starter. Our son who is a real foodie was very impressed. Beer very good as well (fine local craft ales). Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. We'll be back

Excellent meal, delicious flavours and presentation amazing

Beautifully cooked, tasty and interesting food served with friendly discretion. Lots of choice for meat eaters and delicious vegetarian options available. A real gastronomic treat.

We were staying locally at Matterdale so had booked for lunch in advance, a true gem of a find!! - Lovely pub, great staff, brilliant selection of local beers, fantastic food, big portions - my fiance and I could only manage to eat a half of each of our lunchtime sandwiches, so we asked for them to be boxed up for us to finnish later - one half of my sandwich was accidently binned in the kitchen, so bless them, the made a whole fresh sandwich for me to take away - truly excellent customer service! will definitely be back next time we stay in the area. Keep up the good work all!!

Best Sunday dinner I've had for a long time. Every component was beautiful seasoned and flavoured. I dont usually like cauliflower cheese but this was a winner!!

Just attended our second Sunday lunch just to make sure the first wasn't a one off. It absolutely was not. The best Sunday roast I've had even my fussy partner agrees. This is now the only place I will be attending for one. Staff very efficient and attentive food 10/10 almost don't want to tell people about this hidden gem.

We love going to The Horse and Farrier whenever we are up in the lakes. The food is always delicious and for our group of 8 that includes all our choices. The service is brilliant and we enjoy the whole place. Thank you once again, we will be back

05 Aug 25 - We were staying locally and the pub was recommended and did not disappoint. A fab unpretentious pub, good atmosphere, lovely friendly staff, good beers and absolutely stunning food. Booking advisable. The next day we were walking the Ullswater Way and got chatting to a couple from Dockray who said the Horse & Farrier in Dacre was the best pub in the area!

Booked again at The Queens Head Tirral, great atmosphere, our food has always been terrific, this time however, my husband ordered the Fish and Chips, which is just a favourite there, the batter was very overcooked, this may I add is the first time its been like that, all other times its been absolutely delicious, did wonder if the same chef was there? This though, will not stop us going back, plenty on the menu to choose from.
