The View is situated on the cliffs of Whitsand Bay on the Rame Peninsular with comanding views out to sea, but close enough to the Torpoint ferry to be accessible for an evening meal if you’re coming from the Plymouth area. Run by Matt and Rachel Corner and their friendly team, The View is a superb choice for informal and relaxed high quality dining. Matt -- who has cooked at the highest level for 16 years and used to be head chef at the 3 AA rosette Well House near Liskeard -- jumped at the chance of running his own seafood restaurant. The 32-cover venue is bright and spacious with a light wood and white colour scheme and it offers ‘The View’ from all tables. Enjoy lunch either inside or out on the al fresco terrace with a great-value daily changing menu that offers lighter or more substantial versions of mussels, scallops or cod. There are also larger mains that feature that day’s catch or a meat choice. With everything being made from scratch on the premises and Matt’s confident cooking using the best sesasonal, local produce, this is a fabulous choice for superb modern British food that is stylishly presented. Viners restaurant, located just off the A30 near Newquay, first opened its doors in 2004 serving hearty, Cornish food. Chef patron Kevin Viner is an original pioneer of quality food in Cornwall and he was, with his restaurant Pennypots, the first Michelin-starred chef in the county. He acts as an ambassador for local produce as well as a mentor to the next generation of passionate chefs. This year sees some changes to the operation; a new menu, in a move to offer tasty, local food at prices accessible for every one, with dishes such as Fowey Mussels steamed with coconut milk, lemon grass and chilli and Fish of the day in beer batter with hand cut chips, sitting alongside the old favourites. You can drop in for a chilled glass of wine with a bowl of Fowey mussels or a homemade gourmet burger washed down with a pint of local ale. Kevin has also re-launched Pennypots at Viners in 2010. Pennypots at Viners is based within the restaurant where a small number of guests will sit in the newly refurbished private dining area upstairs. On Friday and Saturday evenings the exciting menu offered is a 6 course gourmet tasting menu using the finest ingredients that Cornwall has to offer. They have a beautiful landscaped garden, great for early evening al fresco dining or spending a lazy Sunday lunch. Awards | Michelin Bib Gourmand
