10/10 for the food. Best meal out we have had in a long time. As a chef I can be critical but both of our meals were excellent home made feasts. We will be back the next time we are out that way.

Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithLovely food and great service. Third visit here and always a pleasure. Great steak and sea bass this time.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereReally good, well done
Horse and Farrier – PenrithThe staff are always really friendly and efficient. The food is ok but once you’ve been a few times as we have, the lack of variety in the menu makes choices quite limited. I had booked a few weeks in advance as we were going to the local theatre and was very disappointed to be given a table which basically looked as though it was in the broom cupboard! We are locals and we try to use our local pubs and amenities but felt we had been overlooked in this instance. We had the shrimp which we felt was a bit expensive for what it was. The fish and chips were decent but due to the size of the chips some were still very hard and undercooked. Delicious well priced dessert Affogato. It’s always a nice experience as the pub has a great atmosphere but I felt a bit disappointed by the table we were given and some of the food which was also not up to scratch.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeLovely food & atmosphere. Brilliant staff.
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleGreat food and great service. Will definitely be visiting again.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithAbsolutely beautiful… Without any doubt, if you are looking for a really nice dinner in Penrith we would definitely recommend “ Grants “ We both had the Venison loin and we’ve previously had different variations of , but this was without any doubt the best ! Normally we’d share a dessert until we saw a passing plate ! … Sometimes you just have to treat yourself’s …
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithDelicious food and terrific service. I had the fillet steak cooked to perfection and my husband had venison which he loved. Loved the trio of seafood starter too. Very friendly and attentive staff who made us feel very welcome Will definitely return
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithExcellent small plates and a wonderful charcuterie sharing platter. Service was quick and attentive. Waitress couldn’t have been more friendly. Offer of 3 small plates for £20 was terrific value. Will definitely recommend to all our friends.
Sage and Vine – CarlisleWe made a reservation for on January 19th for a table for 4 at 1900hrs February 28th. I received confirmation of the booking straight away and I also received a reminder of the booking on February 27th 24 hours prior to the booking. We turned up at 1845 on February 28th for our meal only to find the restaurant closed. I phoned the restaurant and was told by the bloke who answered that their oven had broken so they were closed. He said they had called all people who had booked tables, MUST have missed me. When I told him this he offered me a bottle of wine on our next booking. No chance. Our hotel and some other establishments were fully booked but we were extremely fortunate that The Jumble Room had a cancellation and squeezed us in, fantastic place, fantastic food.
