We both loved our meals at the bistro. Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere too
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereWe have eaten here many times and enjoyed every one. The food is excellent, and portions generous. Prices are average. The staff are always friendly and helpful. If they are very busy it may take a little while to be served but it's certainly worth the wait. If we want a meal out, it's always our first choice.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickBooked again at The Queens Head Tirral, great atmosphere, our food has always been terrific, this time however, my husband ordered the Fish and Chips, which is just a favourite there, the batter was very overcooked, this may I add is the first time its been like that, all other times its been absolutely delicious, did wonder if the same chef was there? This though, will not stop us going back, plenty on the menu to choose from.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithLovely home cooked food. Friendly service and cosy setting. Would recommend.
Greyhound Inn Cotehill – CarlisleA party of 5 of us visited on Wednesday. The food was very nice - a slight issue with my husband’s meal - some of it being cold but this was resolved quickly and they brought him another one . A small point perhaps but all the plates were cold which doesn’t help with food temperature and could easily be resolved. My katsu curry was also very mild - I understand that it is difficult to cater for all tolerances and tastes but a bit more heat would have meant a more authentic dish.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeNice food. Good service. Nice atmosphere. Lam was excellent.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereGreat food. Lovely friendly helpful staff. We had a very pleasant relaxed couple of hours . Food excellent couldn't fault anything thanks
Goody Blake’s – GrasmereLove this place .always call when in the lakes good food and service
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithDelightful lunch here on our Settle-Carlisle rail trip. Great risotto, pizza, wine and coffee. Wouldn’t hesitate to return.
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleFantastic pub, the food was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. Unfortunately there wasn’t much choice for our dairy free child who is a very “cautious” eater. The safe option for him is usually steak but it was no longer on the menu.
Horse and Farrier – PenrithA fabulous find. Set in a picturesque village, the pub is a fantastic draw all on its own. I last ate here 2019 and I’m so impressed with the latest menu and staff now in 2025. This time the venison and plumb sauces and vegetables were superb! Definitely one to swing by whenever we can.
Horse and Farrier – PenrithLovely old pub, friendly service and food was beautiful.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickHidden gem! A must try when you’re in grasmere. Sue is absolutely lovely and warm and Clark an excellent chef. I ate there numerous times and tried various items from the menu - none of which disappointed!
Goody Blake’s – GrasmereWow ate for Sunday lunch best food in the whole week for our holiday sticky toffee pudding was lovely Service great waitress pleasant and chatty would definitely go out of my way to eat again
Horse and Farrier – PenrithWe had a meal here and the food was terrific, although we had booked at 6pm there was no rush to order which was great. We enjoyed a few drinks first and the prices were great. The atmosphere was great too with many locals enjoying the pub. The measures too were the 35ml size and not the miserable 25ml served in many English pubs. The owner Julie was very friendly and accommodating and her husband Alistair could not have been more helpful. We would definitely recommend the Greyhound to anyone. Thanks Julie
Greyhound Inn Cotehill – CarlisleAttend here on Saturday evening. Food was lovely and service was efficient. It was busy but staff took time to chat and check everything was to standard. It was nice that we weren’t rush and given time between courses with each plate of food being delicious.
