Busy (well it was Christmas week) lunchtime visit. As always a very warm welcome & shown straight to our table. Team here are always friendly even when rushed off their feet. Nothing too much trouble for them. We weren't having the Christmas menu & opted for the Beef & Ale pie, cheips & veg. Excellent food, well cooked & piping hot. Table nearby were having the Christmas meal & it looked excellent - couldn't argue with the portion sizes either. A favourite of ours & we look forward to being back in the New Year.

Recently had an excellent meal at Spurstow. Fantastic food and service as usual. Been eating there for over 25 years. Management is absolutely superb never had a complaint in all those years

What a wonderful time we had. We booked a meal after my dad’s 80th birthday ‘I-fly’ in Manchester and it did not disappoint on any level. Fabulous food, super service, delightful decor, an exquisite experience all round. Everyone made my dad feel really special as did the other dinners (who I think were lucky to be more local than us - thus can visit more easily and enjoy the lovely wine!) We will be back…and I would strongly recommend a visit. It’s certainly worth the trip…

We visited to have a meal before the Russell Watson show at the nearby church. It was very busy. The food was delicious except the cheesecake was a little disappointing/dry and another in our party didn't like chickpeas in the chilli main meal. There seemed to be too many people dining. Whilst waiting in the bar area, there was little room for the waiters/waitresses to carry the food, drinkers had to constantly move out of the way. We attended last year and it seemed that people dined only in the restaurant area separate from people drinking in the bar. It was good, but could be better - it was too busy sadly.

Great atmosphere, very friendly staff who were excellent even on the very busy Saturday before Christmas. We brought friends with us who were also very impressed. Already planning the return visit to have rather more to eat.

Service and ambience perfect. Two of our party are gluten free and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent food choices. Staff friendly, courteous and helpful. Worth every penny!

Lovely food( mostly!!), excellent waitress and service 2nd christmas meal I've had this year t the Alvanley. Please read the reviews as once again the mince pies were absolutely inedible!! Learn to make pastry or buy some in.

Like many others I am a long time customer and, although I don't now go as often as I would wish to, it is still the best restaurant for value and good food in Chester. The people who run it are lovely and always make you feel welcome. It may be the "hidden gem" that many people call it but if you are visiting Chester it really is worth seeking out.

Food is absolutely top notch. We had lamb, and it melted in your mouth. Our starter of garlic and Stilton mushrooms was to die for and I don’t mind admitting we tipped the bowls up at the end to drink the beautiful sauce. Well worth the price and both the food and the service will be hard to beat. This is going to be a regular stop off when we want to eat out.

Had a wonderful evening meal made even better by the lovely waitress and by the chef willingly altering dishes to accommodate my dairy intolerance. Than you so much!
