This is the second time this year that we have been to Grants and it doesn’t disappoint. The fillet steak was delicious cooked exactly as I like it and it was just as good as the first one. The roasted chicken and bacon was absolutely amazing excellent combination of flavours with a carrot purée sauce. Finished off with an amazing sticky toffee pudding that we had to share as I could not have eaten the whole portion by myself. Compliments to the chef, service was excellent, worth every penny, a beautiful dinner to finish off our anniversary. Thank you to all the staff at Grants

New Years Eve family meal out. 3 courses, very delicious food. Great service. Had a very enjoyable time. A first visit. So will no doubt be going again.

We went for a meal on New Year’s Eve and I would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff and the chef for making it a special evening. The food was exceptional, great service and value for money. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough and really looking forward to our next visit.

Lovely food, excellent service, relaxed atmosphere. A perfect evening treat for 3 generations eating choosing a menu confident enough to be classic rather than attempting to be fashionable.

We celebrated our annual family Christmas gathering and it was the perfect venue! Good was perfect, service absolutely spot on and the value for money exceptional. We will definitely be going again

We recently celebrated my mom’s birthday at Grants of Castlegate, and it was truly an outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, with a menu that is so well thought out—it’s clear the chef puts great care and creativity into every dish. Booking a table online was seamless, with clear and helpful communication throughout the process. I have dietary requirements, and the chef went above and beyond to accommodate them, which made the meal all the more special. The service was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and professional. It really added to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. We couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience, and we will most definitely be back again soon!

As always the food and atmosphere was excellent. We had the Christmas menu which had a lot of choice for the starter, main and dessert. The new wine list is extensive and the Malbec was divine. We will be going back soon.

The meals the four of us had were very good , especially the Sunday roast , lovely and hot , very tasty and fresh ,one of the best I've had anywhere..lovely old pub with plenty of character , nice and clean , and very friendly staff..will definatley be going again

Visited recently to celebrate my husband's birthday. Staff were very welcoming and the food was delicious. Enjoyed all three courses with good wine . Would definitely visit again if in Penrith and would recommend it.

We happened to come across Grants whilst on a stay over on the way to Scotland travelling from Leicester. Originally we had booked the table for late evening but our circumstances changed and even though they were fully booked, they managed to fit us in if we agreed to vacate within a certain timeframe. They expedited our order to give us the maximum experience. The staff were very attentive and helpful and gave us recommendations for each course. The food was superb I had the Halibut it was lovely others had the turkey dinner and one had the garlic and Chilli prawn risotto. The puddings were superb the sticky toffee pudding and the apple crumble with damson sorbet was amazing. We really enjoyed all the food and the staff made it a great meal and even recommended where to get breakfast in the morning, which also was great. Next time we are passing we will be back.

It’s always been an easy option, when staying near Penrith, to walk to a local pub for a meal but after a bit of research we drove to Penrith. We certainly made the right decision. Friendly staff, great food ( beef cheeks and the filet steak were cooked beautifully) Would certainly recommend Grants of Castlegate to anyone staying in the area

Sunday lunch with a group of friends, and everyone commented on how good the food (and drink) was. Nice selection of vegetables with the Sunday roasts, and an excellent nut roast served with vegan gravy. Great flagstone and wooden floor, and proper "old cosy pub" feel to it. Steph behind the bar was lovely and friendly.

Absolutely amazing food and service every time, we absolutely love it here, the food is just amazing and the staff are lovely and very friendly, just wish I lived closer as we would be here all the time. Penriths little Jem for fabulous food.

Stayed in my campervan overnight which was free as long as I had dinner in the pub which I would expect anyway really good food, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Lovely old traditional pub
