This was our second visit in three days which should tell you all you need to know. The first was so successful that it was a 'no-brainer' to return. The service was efficient and pleasant, the food was excellent and the drinks were very good. All the boxes were ticked. We will be back. Sadly for you and us it will now not be until this time next year, but then it'll be a date (or two).

Service attentive and friendly. Food was nicely presented and of a decent standard but overpriced in our opinion for the quality achieved. Our starters were very nice (spiced chicken and souffle) but our mains (slow cooked lamb & cod curry) not quite as good as hoped for. Lamb nice but the gravy was bland and fondant tasteless. The cod appeared a bit overcooked but in a nice sauce. I also personally prefer to see table mats used. Tables without, have a bit of a cafe look and feel about them and this wasn't in keeping with this restaurant.

This pub goes from strength to strength. Not just proper beer but increasingly wonderful food all served by genuinely hospitable staff.

Yet another amazing meal at the Horse and Farrier! Service was impeccable yet warm and friendly. My wife had the cod from the specials menu whilst I had the most amazing wild Cumbrian pheasant burger. Both were absolutely delicious, and washed down with stunning local ales! Couldn’t recommend it more highly!!!

60th birthday meal couldn't have been better, easily some of the best food we've ever had! Excellent use of local and seasonal ingredients. All 3 courses were delicious and beautifully presented. Service was spot on and all the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Well done to the chef and all the team.

Superb My wife and I came for dinner and had a great evening. The service was good, the drinks were good. The food was god. All boxes ticked. We have been before, so knew (hoped) what expect. We were not disappointed. We will be back in the area next year and sure to book in. We have also recommended Grants to where we stay.

Our meal at the Horse and Farrier was in our Top 10 of the best meals we have ever eaten! It was delicious in every way. Quality ingredients, excellent presentation with warm service. We will definitely return.

First time at Grants but it won’t be the last. The food is excellent. I had the cheese soufflé Lamb and sticky toffee pudding. Portions were perfect. My husband had the steak which he is still talking about days later. The service was friendly. The wine was very good. The atmosphere was relaxing. We don’t dine out much because we are always disappointed as we can cook better ourselves. We were very impressed would certainly recommend. Thank you

Made a reservation based on previous reviews We where passing through whilst on holiday Wish the restaurant was closer to home The food was exceptional as was the greeting from staff Fillet was cooked to my liking and was great quality The Lamb my wife ordered was the softest and tender she has tasted in a while Would highly recommend

Lovely meal with inventive choices. Scottish halibut perfectly cooked; lamb tender. Rhubarb ice cream - yum! Best of all local servers were attentive and professional. Would have stayed in flat above if we knew of possibility. Such an iconic village accessible to many beautiful walks. Highly recommend.

we booked this for a family meal was please to see they can cope well with allergies offering alternatives or alterations to suit dinners, we had a full three course meal with wine all the food was great and good value we all had a great time and would recommend and happily go back next time we are in Penrith, Thank you

I had the most wonderful meal with my friend who had never been to the Horse and Farrier and she was delighted with the fish and Chips she had. She said it was the best cooked fish she has ever had. My meal course was very colourful in the way it was presented and the taste was reflected in the taste, it was delightful and very memorable meal. The service was good and friendly.
