Used to love coming this pub for food but a bit of a let down yesterday. We arrived to be asked if we would like to sit at a table with peas, other food and Napkins visably underneath the table. We then were offered an alternative table in the restaurant rather than the bar. The food came reasonably quickly, which I have mixed feelings about. We ordered 2 kids chicken strips and chips meals and the portions were the worst we’ve ever had, 2 small chicken strips and no more than around 12 chips. I asked if we could order some more chips as it seemed a small portion and the waitress agreed and got us more which was appreciated. The food was ok compared to previously really good, not sure if change of chef or ownership? As we were leaving I noticed a family sat at the table we initially were given with the food under the table having not been cleaned up! Wow! Used to love coming this pub as we aren’t too far away, shame.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithBest meal my wife and I have had at an Italian Restaurant in a long while, and seemed good value.
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleGreat atmosphere, friendly service, good range of choices and delicious hearty food.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickEasy to book. Attentive staff. Nice tasty food. Not a huge selection but worked ok. Fish and chips and steak are both good meals which we had.
Pig and Whistle – CartmelThis is a hidden gem out in the country. The room was really nice (note stairs required to all rooms). Food was also very good; both dinner and breakfast. We would return if back in the area.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithExcellent food, very friendly staff - and the friendliness enhanced when they kindly lowered the loud music to acceptable background level, enabling us to talk - well, to be able to hear what the others were saying (sometimes for better, sometimes not). It typically depresses us that restaurants, cafes and the like - where people aim to chat and chit - often have pointless loud beat music...so, congratulations to Mezzaluna for at least turning it down.
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleLovely, atmospheric restaurant in Grasmere serving excellent food at fair prices for The Lakes. Advise booking and definitely a place to visit.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereFabulous food as always, took family who were visiting, they loved it, and can't wait to return,,,, excellent service and experience all round
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleWe came for a Sunday dinner after visiting the fairy steps as a stop over, for another trip. The food was excellent, and they catered really well for children with milk allergies, we will make the trip especially for food in the future.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeHonestly, I wasn't going to bother leaving a review, but I had an email promoting me for one. This is probably the worst meal we've had in Keswick, accompanied by mostly terrible service. I'll try to keep it brief. Partner ordered Chicken Supreme from the specials menu for £21. Served slimy chicken thighs and bland sauce. Son's kids meal was 2 chicken nuggets and literally 5 chips. He's 8 years old and complained constantly. Had to cook him more food when we got back to our lodge. My 'Lamb Henry' was a mixed bag. The lamb itself was delicious, but the "creamy mash" was a squashed, lumpy new potato without any creaminess whatsoever. It took 1 hour 10 mins from ordering to receiving our food, and we were stuffed into a corner with barely enough room to move. When we complained about the meals after, the waitress said, "I wish you had told us sooner", but at no point did anyone come over to check to see if we were happy with our meals, and the couple of people running about looked completely overwhelmed. After waiting over an hour, you just want to eat, not have them go back and start again. I'm sure you understand that. They did knock us £11 off our bill, which was a nice gesture, but I genuinely feel that even the £60 we paid in the end was very bad value for the quality of the food and service received. We'll definitely not be going again.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickCosy, friendly and busy pub. Food was good and plentiful with fresh vegetables included. Service excellent as well. Good idea to book in advance.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickCame to Grasmere in June this year with my mum and ate at the bistro twice in the 3 days we were there. Staff and food were fantastic. Returned this week with my husband for a stay in The Lakes to celebrate his birthday and took him for a meal at the bistro. Again the food and service were faultless. Cannot recommend this place enough. Can’t wait to return to try other dishes!
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereHad a wonderful dinner at Lewis while spending a few days in lovely Grasmere. Food and service were excellent. Topped off the meal with the best Sticky Toffee Pudding I have ever eaten. Highly recommend this awesome restaurant.
