We enjoyed a really delicious relaxed lunch on a dark and rainy January Saturday lunchtime. The staff were very attentive. It was a real treat and highly recommended, especially the ginger sponge!

Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleWe were really looking forward to this meal having viewed the menu, we wanted to low key review the place as a potential Wedding venue. The service was poor we waited 20minutes for our drinks and had to ask twice. The starters were fine. The burger was hard and inedible, the duck was not rendered and way over cooked. We asked for the bill yet still had to follow up and pay at the counter. Not one person during our whole stay asked if we enjoyed it other that the events manager.. rule 1 of customer service is surely ask if it’s ok.
Hall Garth Hotel – DarlingtonFood was lovely although waiters were a mess. Setting was terrible sat in a cold conservatory with smooth radio station on. Not the ideal setting based on the expensive menu.
Hall Garth Hotel – DarlingtonLovely meal. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. Will return
Derwent Manor Hotel – DurhamStaff pleasant and make sure everything is ok. Food portion was good, nice and hot. Food was tasty, only downfall I had the beef and it was thinly cut and too well done, so it was tough. Overall good though. Breakfast the next morning was nice, again stayed hot, plenty choice of continental, cooked, drinks and jams etc. Was nice and quiet period so wasn't rushed. Maybe a bit of quiet, chilled music would be nice, as was a bit quiet.
Hall Garth Hotel – DarlingtonHad a birthday spa weekend booked everything was messed up or wrong to the point where I was sitting in tears from the food in the restaurant and it’s staff they were fabulous
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleCan't comment on Gilroys menu/service, even though I paid £30 per head for evening meal we had to eat in Dickens Bar as we had our dog with us. Everything about Dickens bar was fantastic.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleLovey food, good sized portions, value for money and friendly staff
Farmhouse Dine & Wine – DurhamLovely setting and atmosphere for an NYE meal. Very friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately my partners starter was very basic for the price of £8, the prawns looked like they had just been placed from a packet onto a plate. The fillet steak was not cooked correctly, it was eaten anyway purely so we didn’t have to wait for another to be cooked. Good portion size for the meal overall and was still nice, but would expect to get exactly what was ordered for the price of it. Arrabiata pasta came as a good portion, probably too much. Well presented but unfortunately apart from having a chilli kick, the sauce tasted bland or watered down. £80 for two drinks, two starters and two mains seemed very overpriced for what we got. It was our first meal here so not sure if these issues were due to it being NYE however I wouldn’t even say the restaurant was ‘busy’. We have eaten at the Antler bar in the past with no issues so may book in there if we were wanting to try again.
Derwent Manor Hotel – DurhamLovely food and nice atmosphere. Staff very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be going back!
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleBeautiful venue and meal. Staff were attentive and friendly. Food was delicious and service excellent.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleWe had a Christmas get together for our family. The ballroom looked lovely although it smelled of smoke from the fire. The food was lovely but the service was terrible and really didn’t do the Morrit justice. If someone had asked about drinks more would have been sold. No-one asked us if the food was ok, the dessert took an age. Really simply train your staff to be responsive and the restaurant would then be full of people returning for the delicious food . I will say though that the booking staff were very helpful
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleGood place to stay. Very peaceful and chilled atmosphere. Room overlooking the golf course was very clean and comfortable. Food very good and breakfast very good. Would stay again.Staff very helpful and friendly.
Hall Garth Hotel – DarlingtonTerrible service, seated in the bar with no table service, waited over an hour for even our starters to arrive. Food was average. Wouldn’t be back.
