I visited the Italian Cottage, with friends on the 19th January. I found the vegetarian options very appealing, the meal tasty and the service great. I went back to the Italian Cottage last night, 26th January, with my partner. As we sat waiting for our meal, my partners mobile phone rang. This was a business call, not personal and he kept the call brief. In disbelief, the lady that we believe to be the manager came over to our table and in a loud, condescending tone told, did not ask, my partner to turn his phone onto silent. We were so embarrassed. My partner almost walked out, but we stayed for our meal. My partner asked if they would cook his meal again because it was too salty, the staff said that it was too salty because my partner had put too much Parmesan cheese on it!! I work for LCC, all my work colleagues carry mobiles for business purposes and I will be advising them very strongly not to eat at this restaurant!

Dreadful! 4 of us booked for the 7 course taster menu at 8pm. At 11pm we were still waiting for the 5th course. The reply from front of house staff was "the chef has to prepare each dish individually." This is usually the case in such establishments! The food was unremarkable but the service dreadful/rude and as such made for a regrettable experience. If people are able to apologies instead of make feeble excuses it is much more acceptable. Particularly when paying ~£100 per head. It seemed unusual with the chef rushed off his feet that he had time to walk around his establishment, notably taking no interest in whether his guests were enjoying their dinning experience. Here for an end to supposed quality establishments where the front of house staff are not up to scratch. Pay peanuts get monkeys!

Stay well clear. The old female manager is damn right rude. She shouted at me and this upset me and my granchild.

We chose Amelie's for my step-son Bob's 50th birthday lunch. Our visit proved to be a superb experience in living and dining. It seemed we had stepped back to a more refined era. The experience is that of dining in one of those large private homes of yesteryear and we appreciated the vast attention to detail. The staff have a warm greeting. The service was unhurried and the food was never less than magnificent. At Amelie's we felt we were in a totally different, totally unhurried world and the verdict of the birthday boy was " the best meals in years." We all agreed that this fine restaurant is a treasure.

Used to eat at the Sitting Goose a couple of years ago. Unfortunately on arrival last night the dining area was very cold and we would have had to sit with our coats on. Although they did put the heating on. So we decided to sit in the main bar area. The whole place including the menus looked very tired and uninviting. It didn't help with the view of the disabled toilet from our table and when moving our table, the line of chewing gum, underneath caught on my hands, yuk ! Sorry but we will not be returning.

Found Smiths Arms in the fog last night, Not our first choice but the pub we had intended to go to has a long way to go to meet the standards at the Smiths. On arrival we were greeted and welcomed by the barman as we made our way to the dining area. The food was served in good time and the portions and quality were brilliant. The staff were very polite and friendly and the lady, who we presume was the owner, ensured we were all ok. The only minor disappointment was the coffee which tasted a little like "vending" machine coffee. All in all, excellent food at good prices with good service. We will certainly be returning again - brilliant - thank you.

First time visit to this venue and had a fantastic meal. The beef in blackbean sauce from the "sizzler" menu was excellent. Very friendly welcome from all the staff, and excellent service. In conclusion, Great staff, great food at sensible prices and highly recommended.

We didn't book but may be best to as it was very busy at lunchtime on a Saturday, we got the last restaurant table. A bar menu and a restaurant menu had most options covered though you had to eat bar food in the bar, which was ok as the bar menu has sandwiches and meals on it, so if one wants a sandwich and the other more of a meal then you are ok on this menu. The tables in the bar are very low though. Service was good considering how busy it was. We were overcharged but quickly and professionally rectified, a genuine mistake as we did a 2 course from one menu and a starter from another, so it was a bit complicated admittedly. If using sat nav once iit says you are there and you can,t see it....go a bit further down the road. Overall we enjoyed it, it is quite an experience, the layout of the bar, central, is one of only 3 in England. Worth a trip.

Today myself and 3 others went to the windmill, it was great, fab food, so many choices, the staff were bob on, we all really enjoyed our meal, the new owners have made some fab changes and we'll defo be going again, I really hope it stays as good as it is now , ill defo be spreading the word .

We went on spec, on a Saturday night, and had a fantastic meal. The service was really smooth and the welcome was warm. The best thing about Ye Horns Inn is the way all the details were attended to. For example the butter at the table was soft and not straight out of the fridge and the hand driers in the toilets were nice and strong. However, this would have been no good on it's own without the wonderful food and drink. I had a beautifully tender piece of steak with virtually no fat. It was cooked to perfection and almost melted in the mouth. The delicious roast potatoes deserve a special mention as they were just the right proportion of softness inside to crunchy outside. I had a beautiful glass of Chilean merlot with my meal and my husband assured me the Bowland Brewery's Hen Harrier was Good Beer Guide quality. Next time I may have to drive so he can enjoy a pint or six of this excellent bitter! And all this for less than £30 a head. A great night and definitely somewhere we would go again.

I eat at the continental at least once a month, and I have to say that the quality of the food is always excellent. You always get the feeling that no corners are cut in the kitchen and this really does show. There is a specials menu that changes daily so you never become bored of the same menu. I find the prices very reasonable, for example I had a beautiful cheese crusted fillet of Scottish hake for £12 last week. A remarkably similar dish cost me £18 at a local Italians recently and was far poorer quality. The service is friendly and not over powering, which is as it should be in a pub. The wine list is good quality I would recommend the Malbec a bargain at around £14 a bottle. However the real beauty of the drinks at the conti is the vast selection of real ales, German & Belgium beers. There are few places that have anywhere near the choice. The staff are informative and well educated on the drinks and will always lend a helping hand if you cant decide what to have. The continental is by far the best place to eat around Preston city centre. I would recommend bookings as it can be extremely busy especially is the weather is nice as there is a fantastic beer garden.

We recently visited the Red Lion on a Sunday evening and I was impressed by how busy the pub was despite the time of year. We had a drink in the lounge (I opted for a real ale) while choosing our food. After much deliberation, I chose a goat's cheese starter and chicken for my main course. The food was well cooked and really beautifully presented, the portions were generous and all the flavours worked well together. The dauphinoise potatoes that came with the chicken were delicious, but that wasn't enough to stop me stealing a couple of my partner's chips. I think they were fried twice and were gorgeous - I keep telling everyone how nice they were! We didn't have space for a pudding each, so we finished off the meal by sharing a chocolate fondant. It was chocolaty and perfectly gooey in the middle and came with a vanilla ice-cream which complemented the chocolate flavour well. I will definitely be returning when I next visit the area - there's lots more on the menu I want to sample!

I have eaten at this restaurant a couple of occasions, including Christmas day. A party of 20 of us, with quick friendly service everyone served at the same time, authentic tasty food our party felt fully satisfied, the food and atmosphere was fantastic. Very friendly staff and reasonably priced food. Fantastic! thank you la vespa x

We ate at Italian Cottage on Fri 14th Jan, Thoroughly enjoyed it, the food was excellent and the waiting on staff were very friendly. If I had to pick one negative the only thing I can think of is, there is no waiting area so if your table is not ready, your stood about, but our table was ready, it was very busy and we will def be going again.

been to this restaurant twice both times food service etc first class have eaten in Italian restaurants all over Europe and middle east this is without doubt one of the best

Food was very good but not recommended for families with children who don't eat an adult portion! We were brought 3 adult portions for my children - the youngest two being 3 and 4 - eldest was 8. They did not think to ask if my children required a child size portion. I presumed anyone with an ounce of common sense would know such young children were never going to eat such a portion ( and yes it was evident that those meals were for the children). We were told off for not specifying we required child size portions (even though we knew they did child portions as we had enquired over the phone) but as a good will gesture were given £4 off a £104 bill! I explained no one would order an adult portion for a 3 and 4 year old - I was assured that people do.... so they can share it! Share it? Yes I can understand that, but share 3 adult portions between 3 kids - how does that work? We were made to feel stupid and spoken to like children. Good food does not outdo poor customer service. Perhaps it was a bad night, it has some excellent reviews on here, but I will never go back. It left a very bad taste in the mouth.

Excellent selection of takeaway Indian sweet and savoury snacks. I recommend the stuffed peppers. Forget supermarket snacks eat the real thing!
