The food was again outstanding and professionally presented. We had four starters and four main courses. No room for dessert. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, the service perfect. We recommend to locals and holidaymakers alike.

The food is excellent, creative dishes that celebrate seasonal ingredients and always cooked perfectly. The staff are brilliant very attentive and friendly. The pints are also great. It’s well priced so we’ve always walked away as happy customers. 10/10

Lamb 10/10 Salmon 10/10 Attitude of staff to us having a 2 year old 10/10 Children’s menu fish and chips 10/10 Can’t say enough good things First visit Live 6 hours away but will be back!!

Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithWe had popped in for a drink one afternoon when the chef was on his break We got talking and he told us about the gluten feee options.He certainly lived up to his word, amazing gluten free fish and chips ! The nicest I’ve ever had. They have a varied menu, something for everyone. Good selection of real ales and wines. The Penny Lane Sauvignon was really good.

Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithWe were recommended Horse and Farrier by our host at Barton Hall, Pooley Bridge, in 2023. We were impressed by menu, food and atmosphere. For our 2025 trip, we made reservations well ahead of time for two dinners. No word of a lie, we overheard a number of other tables mention that they make a point of dining at H&F when they are in the district.
