A ‘must try’ place in Penrith! Whenever we travel up to Penrith we always visit Grants. The food is excellent & staff warm & friendly.

Excellent food

This was our first visit to the Queens Head as we were visiting the area for a holiday. I booked a table and made mention it was my wife's birthday. We were warmly welcomed and the team had decorated the table with a banner and balloons as a birthday treat. The food was good and the atmosphere comfortable with a lovely open fire blazing. Service was very friendly but slow Overall an excellent visit and will go again

Lovely pub!!! Sunday lunch was delicous only disapointment i didnt like any of the deserts on menu (all sounded too heavy) will definatly visit again

I have lived in Cumbria for well over 20 years but this was my first visit. 3 of us went for a meal to celebrate my wife's birthday. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. My haddock was cooked to perfection and the other 2 meals also met with enthusiastic comments.

Excellent visit to grants at Castlegate. We were up visiting my mum who has recently moved to the area and decided to try grants. The staff are superb, very polite and tend to your every need. The food was delicious, served hot and really quickly. We will 100% go again! Thank you to everyone we had a wonderful evening

Staying in the area 2 nights, had a meal here each night, for 2 people. Different items chosen, so tried 4 dishes, all excellent. Staff really helpful and friendly, wish we were here longer

Our “local” whenever we are in the Lakes and it never disappoints! Food was exceptional, delicious and beautifully presented. Super efficient and friendly staff the Horse and Farrier really is a cut above. We can highly recommend the pistachio cake, absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to return!

Portion size was great, food value for money and be staff and owners where very friendly.

Amazing steak pie! They don't serve them often, apparently (the owners were well known for their pies when they used to run the Cross Keys pub in nearby Carleton), but they do occasioal Pie NIghts at Grants so it's worth looking out for them!

After a 2 hour walk in the rain we had a Sunday Roast here to look forward to. The roast beef was amazing, generous portions and delicious veggies. Friendly staff who let me sample the chocolatey stout before purchasing ( I recommend!!) Make sure you book ahead, it’s a popular place and we didn’t mind having a late lunch as early slots booked up. Excellent value, we’ll be back!!

This was our first visit since the management change and we are very pleased to report that all is well - a good meal in the dining room and Louisa and Grace looked after us well. The pub looks as though it has also been smartened up a little and with an open fire, what's not to like

Food was perfect. Although the service for taking our food and drink order was very slow.

Found this by chance and so pleased I did! Lovely atmosphere - polite, friendly, efficient staff - beautiful views and absolutely amazing food! Best roast beef I have ever tasted - vegetables cooked to perfection and desserts to die for and all at a realistic affordable price Could not fault a thing Highly recommend

I visited here with my boyfriend whilst we were on holiday in the Lakes. We thought the food was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and wine. The team who looked after us were very friendly and attentive. We will defintely return if in the area.

Very welcoming staff and atmosphere . Extensive and varied food and wine menus. Service good. I had cheese soufflé to start which was beautifully cooked but could have been a little more cheesy in flavour. Had linguine and fish as main with lobster bisque which again presented nicely but the flavours could have been ‘less subtle’ on the seafood . Crumble and ice cream for desert with no criticism. We were a table of three and overall our rating would be good and would return for a second try
