One of our favourite places to eat in Penrith. Friendly, efficient service coupled with delicious food and a well balanced yet not overly busy menu makes for a fantastic dining experience. We like to try and eat here at least once a month. At this visit I had the Soufflé to start which is divine, followed by the mushroom cobbler. This was a random choice by me and it was bloody lovely! The carrots were cooked to perfection and were very tasty.

Excellent service in a charming relaxed atmosphere. All three courses were delicious especially the raspberry cheesecake.

Fabulous meal on Saturday night for my dad’s birthday! I had booked this online before our visit to the lakes following an online search of top ten restaurants and they weren’t wrong when this was on the list! Best google search ever and the food and service was amazing! Well worth a visit to all those considering a trip to the lakes.

Excellent food and service. Fish and chips was large and excellent; crumble freshly cooked and very tasty. Lovely staff.

We ate here on 26/09. The meals was excellent, well presented with friendly and efficient staff. We would certainly recommend the Horse and Farrier and will be returning in the not too distant further.

Starter course was returned to the kitchen. Pigeon was significantly over cooked. Main course halibut was over cooked and dry: possibly linked to the delay due to returning the starters

Each time we visit the food just gets better and better. The menu is varied and interesting but the Specials are even better. Last night we had the mackerel pate and the soup to start, both of which were delicious but the star of the show was our duck breast with plums, root veg, rosti and jus which was absolutely fantastic and worthy of a top restaurant. The Horse & Farrier have upped their game again and aside from the first class food, the service is great, always with a smile and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We can’t wait to be back soon!

My partner and I eat here regularly. The menu changes frequently, fabulous delicious food with consistent quality . Service is welcoming, hospitable and good. The H&F is our preferred venue for eating out .

Food was great! It’s a little understaffed, just two folks covering the bar and all tables. Atmosphere could be improved - no music, plus we were in a very dark corner with a wobbly table and weird chairs.

The 3 of us had Sunday lunch at the Queens Head, and we all enjoyed our meals The crackling with the pork was great and could have done with another piece!!!.The beef was lovely and tender, and the Yorkshire puddings were huge. We all had deserts, the Sticky toffee pudding was Sticky, and I was told delicious, the fruit Crumble was lovely and the ice cream was cold!!! The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We would recommend going to the Queens, and we will be returning. Certainly value for money.
