Lovely place, great food and really welcoming hosts

We booked Y Sgwâr on the recommendation of our accommodation host while my son and I were staying in the area for a few days. It did not disappoint and my meal was the most delicious I have had in a restaurant in a very long time. The atmosphere was warm but not pretentious and we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The service was extremely friendly and efficient and we will most certainly be back!

Fantastic experience, We really enjoyed it, We had a really lovely carvery & cheese cake to finish off delicious, The Staff were absolutely amazing, can’t do enough for you , we will definitely be visiting again in the near future , fabulous!

Had the 3 course sunday carvery. Starters lovely and were delivered quickly. Went for our carvery food was lovely and fresh. Then the service stopped we eventually had to ask for a desert menu to be told "hang on" she brought the menus we ordered and they were lovely. I understand it was 3pm but once most of the lunch guests had left doesnt mean all the staff should as well.

Superb Sunday lunch at this well run restaurant. Lovely staff and a warm relaxed atmosphere. Diolch!

Fantastic has always

This is an all round super find. The Old Courthouse is set in the old magistrates court within the town walls but overlooking the castle. The venue is super. It’s open with plenty of space and importantly clean and very well kept. Service is a delight. The food menu was just right. Not too much choice but enough for everybody’s palate! The food itself was exceptional. Overall a fantastic evening. Thank you!!!

This is a perfect little restaurant in such a congenial small planned town worth a visit in itself: In the bright dining room the atmosphere was convivial made possible by the jolliest maitre’D I think I’ve ever come across. Each of the dishes we ordered was absolutely delicious and clearly had been individually prepared for each customer. We were made to feel very welcome and told that we would be warmly received any time we came back. It’s great to feel special in a restaurant and not always the case.

I was very impressed by the menu and the quality of the food we were served. I could not fault any aspect of the menu, the food or the service. This is special food and deserves to be applauded. Well done also for the lovely champagne and the excellent wine.

A nice surprise. If you are in the area and looking for a nice meal, I highly recommend Y Sgwar. Booking was easy, service was excellent. Food was delicious.

We had lunch at Hotel Wrexham yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Very tasty food, good surroundings and friendly staff. Especially recommend the halloumi fries.

I’ll add this place to my favourites list!! Why hadn’t we heard about this restaurant earlier, we’ve been coming to this area for years. Lovely looking restaurant, comfortable seating, excellent service and superb food; we couldn’t have asked for more.

Food was just stunning and so very tasty. Service was excellent. Y Sgwar is a little gem.

When on holiday in area we always finish our last night with meal here. Always beautiful food, great atmosphere and fantastic service. Cannot recommend highly enough
