Y Sgwar – PorthmadogThe restaurant has a lovely calm feel to it, both the food and service were excellent and we even had the pleasure of listening to the baby grand piano being gently played. A thoroughly enjoyable meal and excellent value for money.
The Old Courthouse – CaernarfonWe visited this restaurant for the first time today and it won’t be the last. We enjoyed a simply delicious 2 course Sunday lunch….could not manage a dessert as we had no room left! We both had a simple prawn cocktail as starter. This was fresh, tasty and well presented. We then had the roast beef dinner which came with lots o& yummy vegetables plus a gorgeous cauliflower cheese. Service was attentive and good.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogWe ate on Wednesday 8th May 2024. Wonderful food as usual. We have eaten here many times over the years and we always have perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and tasty food. I had the lamb and it melted in your mouth. Lorraine looked after us and gave us a table with privacy as I am a type 1 diabetic, so I could inject my insulin without disturbing other diners. We had a glass of the house Merlot and it was divine. I wished that we booked a taxi and ordered a bottle! Thank you again, we will be back.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogVery good food and enjoyed the environment. Staff and service were excellent, really liked the place, we will return

Telfords Bistro – ConwySpent a few days staying near Porthmadoc and so eat at several different restaurants. All were good but Y Sgwar was excellent. Lovely building set in the village square with plenty of parking outside. We ate there on a busy Saturday evening and the place was full of people obviously enjoying themselves. The menu was extensive and catered for all tastes. I had one of the best, perhaps the best, rib-eye stakes I've ever had. Cooked to perfection. Out of the deserts, the pavlova with white chocolate ice-cream was delicious. If in the area we would go again.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogLoved our meal and service on Friday 10 May and hope to return one dat
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogVisited the restaurant during a week's stay in porthmadog. The service and quality of the food was faultless. By far the best we had during our week in North Wales
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogWe had a great meal at Y Shear. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. We had the early bird menu that was good value for the quality of food.

A complete disaster of an evening having taken 3 family members for a surprise meal.Table 9 booked but when we arrived was taken to table 78 in the dining room where two parties of around 15 people each where making so much noise it was impossible to have a conversation. Two children on the next table to us were sitting with their hands over their ears it was that bad. In the end we and the people on the other table went outside to eat. Not the best place to be at 7.30p.m. when the meal was served but better than having to put up with all that noise. Will not be visiting there again.
The Victoria Inn – BarmouthExcellent food, atmosphere, service & value. Good enough to lure us back to North Wales very soon.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogA very nice meal in a very nice pub
Royal Oak – WrexhamWe haven’t visited for about 11 yrs, I saw that it was still owned by the same people. So celebrating a friend’s birthday, we booked our table for four. Well the food was even better than we remembered with great service. Glad we made the effort and will visit again if we come back to the area.
