We visit The Lakes every year and staying locally have become regular visitors and diners at The Pheasant. I would go so far as saying it is consistently the best pub food we know. Service, portion sizes, quality and variety are always excellent and there is always a convivial and welcoming atmosphere. The cask ales are always in tip-top condition as well and we never leave feeling without being full and delighted to have returned again.

Excellent food served by really helpful friendly staff. We had a very enjoyable evening at the bistro and were pleasantly surprised by how many tables were filled on a Tuesday evening in February; nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Food was fresh, well presented and most importantly, very tasty. Service was fab too, staff were friendly and approachable. Atmosphere was great and the decor was rustic yet charming. Would highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed!

The restaurant had a buzz on a busy Sunday evening which created a good atmosphere. Staff and service were both excellent. Food was perfect - Monk Fish, Sea Bass and Chicken. Probably a little bit pricey but it’s a nice restaurant and we had a nice evening out.

We always book to eat at The Pheasant when we visit Keswick. On this occasion we were very disappointed with the service. We were not acknowledged for 25 minutes. My sister in law eventually got up and asked one of the waiters if he could serve us so at least we could have a drink and he said I’ll come over, but can’t you see we’re busy!! The waiter gave us a large glass of wine for the price of a medium glass by way of apology, but we felt disappointed anyway in spite of that. We have been before when the restaurant has been completely full and we have always been welcomed with a smile and our drinks order has been taken practically immediately. We were given the sweet menu and then nobody came to take our order, so after waiting another 20 minutes we got up, went to the bar and paid.

When my wife and I turned up we were told our table was “over there by the radiator” as the lady behind the bar pointed at the the table and kept her feet firmly planted in position. As we sat ourselves down, nobody acknowledged we had arrived and after not being asked if we would like a drink or shown a menu I had to stop the nearest waitress and ask for one. In my opinion the surf and turf was overpriced, £10 extra for a couple of frozen scampi bites on top of the standard price for the steak. The steak was cooked to perfection and that justified the price of the 6oz steak. We left feeling disappointed that the service let the whole standard down and for us we wouldn’t be in a rush to return.

Really friendly service, with good laughs and banter with the staff. The food service was good and the dishes were well thought out and very well delivered! The venison with venison game keepers cottage pie and chocolate sauce was gorgeous! Lovely wine (the selection was quite good for a small place) and a fun night had all round!

Wonderful front of house a friendly warm welcome. Thankyou Heather. The fillet was divine, tender juicy and tasty bark. The trio of fish was a nice light tasty starter and the chocolate creme brulee was fantastic. Overall a wonderful fine dining experience

Had a lovely meal on Thursday 29 February 2024 with my husband, Gary. This was the second time we have visited the restaurant on our stay at Grasmere. The food was excellent and good value for money. The staff were really helpful and friendly and we will visit again next time we are at Grasmere.

We generally enjoyed our meal at Lewis' Bistro. The food was well cooked and very tasty. (The lamb, which my husband chose was 'fantastic' apparently!) In addition our waiter, a young girl, was absolutely delightful. Our only reservations were, first, the price - the food here is expensive, especially as portions are not over generous! ( My monkfish portion was quite small, even for me and I don't eat 'big' amounts) Our other reservation is that we were given a table right next to the door, which meant we were periodically cold, and far too close to another couple, so there was zero privacy. ( We eventually started just chatting to them. They were very nice but it wasn't what we'd planned!) I think we would have had a better overall experience if we'd sat elsewhere and tables had been less crammed together. However, we still judge it to be a 'good' restaurant .. and would go again!
