Stayed here on the recommendation of Sugarvine. My partner and I were very impressed and loved the food in the brasserie. A real gem of a rural retreat in the North Lakes.

The Pheasant – CockermouthWhat am amazing place! This was the second place we stayed having been recommended by Sugarvine. A deserved winner of many awards! I would also drop Sugarvine an email if you are looking for some insider knowledge on where to eat or stay in the Lakes.
Drunken Duck Inn – AmblesideDined here with my family including my 3yr old granddaughter who was made very welcome!. The food was absolutely excellent!. I can honestly say I had the best fillet steak I have ever had! The waiters and waitresses were so pleasant and the service was as equally excellent as the food! Lovely food, lovely place, lovely service, well worth a visit!!
The Wild Boar Inn, Grill & Smokehouse – WindermereWe had never been to the Kingfisher before but decided to give if a try having recently moved to the area and were celebrating our son's 30 th birthday. With 2 chefs and a child in the party if was never........p goingto.be easy but it was a fantastic evening. The food was delicious and very reasonable, and the service excellent. Thank you to all. We'll be back
Kingfisher Restaurant – MilnthorpeGreat pub landlord very. Friendly they make you feel very welcome
Lindale Inn – Grange-over-SandsA little gem of a restaurant in the west coast area of the Lakes, good food and service.
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessThis article keeps it real, no doubt.
Borrowdale Hotel – Keswickwe visited brambles tea room in march for my birthday, and even tho the rain was coming down in bucketfuls, we ventured out, and stumbled on this lovely tea room the homemade food was the best we have ever tasted, especially the home made quiche which is divine, and to die for, we shall definitely be visiting again, and will be visiting brambles, to sample some more homemade delights.
Brambles Coffee Bar – WindermereWe have eaten at Artisan several times in the evening and the food and presentation is spot on.
Booths Cafe – KendalHave eaten here a few times recently and the food was wonderful. Highly recommended.
Bengal Restaurant – KendalBest coffee experience of our travels. Thanks you for the good conversation as well.
Cafe Treff – AmblesideWe wandered up from the Lake down this small cobbled street to find Porto. It really is a wonderful charming building with beautiful surroundings and decoration. We sat in the downstairs bar for pre dinner drinks then we were shown upstairs for our dinner reservation. I ordered the Arancini and the Lamb My friends had the soup, parfait, steak and pork. All the food was beautifully presented and the lamb was the best I have ever tasted. For dessert we shared a white chocolate risotto and the chocolate and caramel tart these were truly amazing. My only complaint would be I we were too full to finish them! The service was efficient and friendly. We would definitely recommend this place to friends and I would visit soon before this place gets really well known!
Porto Restaurant – WindermereAbsolutely brilliant breakfast menu. Best I've seen anywhere with over 35 choices of cooked dishes. They cater for meat eaters , veggie/vegans and coeliacs on gluten free diets. More like a restaurant than a B & B dining room. The home made granola on the buffet is wonderful as is the home made fruit compote.
St Johns Lodge – WindermereEvery visit to Ambleside needs a visit to Cafe Treff!, Great food lovely staff. If you haven't been before give it a go !!
Cafe Treff – AmblesideMy husband and I have a boat moored in Bowness Bay, and so we regularly visit Bowness. We have been going to the Villa Positano for 5 years now and never once been disappointed. Fantastic authentic Italian food. The best fillet steak in Cumbria and always cooked to perfection. We usually have to book a table, even in winter-always a sign of a good restaurant. Lovely to visit a real family-run Italian restaurant!
Villa Positano – WindermereHaving been a fan of Jintana Thai in Bowness for many years and travelling there on a regular basis from Lancaster, we were really happy to find they've opened a second branch in Kendal. Same great food, in an even more beautiful restaurant than the already beautiful one in Bowness. Staff are attentive but not too intrusive. definitely a must on visiting Kendal. Just wish they would open in Lancaster.
Jintana Thai – KendalI bought into the hype and went straight to Lucy's on my 1st night in the Lake District, and my was I disappointed!!! The service was so horrible that I actually left feeling unhappy; the food looked like something out of a supermarket take-away bag... and I have no doubt that the drab salad leaves were exactly that! The dessert was nothing like the glorious pudding I'd anticipated, and the cost for all my dismay was way, way too high!! I eat out a lot (twice a week of late) as I travel quite a bit with my job, so I've learnt to be very accommodating of different eateries and regional tastes, but heavens!!! Lucy's is flailing on all counts! The hostess was out rightly rude, the waitresses depressingly dull, and the duck no better than a "2 dine for £10" supermarket special! Plus what is WITH the menu??! I'm only 27 and I was struggling to read it! It's neither cute nor cool... get a graphic designer, or go to a professional printers, that is just poor! I imagine that Lucy (and oh how I'd love to meet her and tell her to her face what I make of her establishment) thinks it's very clever to name drop guests on her menu, but I think her time would be better spent actually preparing the menu items! My deepest sympathies go out to anyone who actually paid to attend her cooking classes! Wow... my displeasure runs deep, but I'll stop here, with 1 final comment on hygiene: my table was sticky and dirty and despite my request to have it cleaned, it remained so! I've never felt so uncomfortable in an eatery, not even at my local kebab shop... it was horrid!! All in all: Lucy's On a Plate = Deep Dissatisfaction On a Plate! (...and in the décor, and in the service... and in the whole squalid affair!!)
