Pheasant Inn – KeswickCan't fault the food we had at Grant's of Castlegate - everything was delicious. Would highly recommend if you are looking for great food and a warm welcome. :)
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithI booked at least a month of staying in Keswick, due to amazing reviews, We were not disappointed, gorgeous Roast lunch with all the trimmings, The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Very welcoming staff and were lovely and attentive to us . Welcomed my dog too . Nothing was no trouble at all. Highly recommended.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickHad Sunday lunch here. Lovely meal , with plenty of roast choices. All cooked delicious, lots of thick cut meat. Service great . I’m hoping to use this as my new local . Baked tatty, toasties be good on menu too when not wanting a larger meal , so far impressed.
Greyhound Inn Cotehill – CarlisleSuperb Sunday roast beef lunch. Had pate for starter also very tasty.
Horse and Farrier – PenrithWonderfull food and location. Had a steak and cooked to perfection. My wife had the salmon and was also cooked to pefection. Great service highly recommend, but make sure you book. Weld done Amanda and her team
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereExcellent Sunday roast! Group of 14 and we all had brilliant meals. Highly recommend. Would be good to offer a vegetarian roast would be my only feedback.
Horse and Farrier – PenrithA really great experience dining at the Farmer Arms last Saturday evening. The food (curry night) was delicious and the service friendly and efficicient. We were a large party including cildren and everyone had a really good time.
Farmers Arms – UlverstonThe main part of the food was lovely but 4 of us had mash potato side and the mash was not cooked it was full of uncooked chunks. We booked for 7.30pm and there was only one other table with people eating the rest of the tables said reserved but no one came the whole time we where there. We ordered the two course children's meals and where told when ordering the deserts that the chef had gone home so we could only have ice cream, and this was just 3 scoops of ice cream in a bowl, no sauce offered. Food and drinks had to be ordered at the bar no table service.
Hope and Anchor – Grange-over-SandsWe were recommended this place while staying in the area on holiday and it did not disappoint. Lovely atmosphere, big beer garden in the rear, food was fab. Only advice would be don’t eat before you go as their portions are massive! But worth every bite! Thank you!
Hope and Anchor – Grange-over-SandsI posted a reasonably positive review on google and got a defensive response from The Pheasant. The service was slow and inattentive, the response was that this was because they were busy… what? Lots of places are busy and the service is great… if you ask for feedback, listen… if you don’t really want feedback don’t ask… if you want to know how to do it better, visit Casa Bella.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickMade a last minute booking for dinner. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very welcoming, and the bar and serving people were welcoming, helpful and professional. The food was excellent, and as the starter was a little too much for me I asked for a takeaway box which my server promptly provided. The main Cheese and steak pie with mash and gravy was also delicious. I was driving and so had an alcohol free beer and their choice of beers was excellent. Overall a very pleasant evening. I will be coming back soon.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeFabulous evening, as always, food and service are always great.
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleHad a fantastic meal here on a beautiful August Friday night. Managed to sit outside with views of the mountains in our backdrop. The food and wine certainly matched the setting which was well presented and equally well made. The service was spot on and will definitely be back on our next visit to Grassmere.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmerePizzas were delicious but had to wait ages ! Would have been happy if someone had just said - sorry we’re busy and there’s going to be a wait when we ordered. It’s a great place and would like to support but needs to get better at the organisation and planning .
Farmers Arms – UlverstonHad a couple of nights here for a family birthday - slight mixup over order but easily & quickly rectified - excellent local beer & fruity rose - pie tasty & salmon delicious - will be more than happy to stay & eat here again ...
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeFrom the moment we stepped through the door, Sage & Vine felt like a warm embrace. We travelled down from Glasgow for Diane’s 50th birthday celebration The ambiance is cozy and stylish, with soft lighting and thoughtful decor that sets the tone for a relaxed, intimate evening. But what truly elevates the experience is the service—genuinely exceptional. We were greeted with smiles and seated promptly, despite arriving slightly ahead of our booking. The staff struck that rare balance between professionalism and warmth. They were knowledgeable about the menu, offering thoughtful recommendations without being pushy. When we asked about wine pairings, our server gave spot-on suggestions that complemented our dishes beautifully. Throughout the meal, service was attentive but never intrusive. Plates were cleared discreetly, drinks topped up with perfect timing, and every interaction felt sincere. One staff member even noticed we were celebrating and brought over a complimentary dessert with a handwritten note—such a personal touch that made the evening unforgettable. The food itself was outstanding. We sampled a variety of small plates—the glazed chorizo, patatas bravas, and cod cheeks were all standouts. The garlic dip was a revelation. And the wood-fired “Macho” pizza? Bold, flavorful, and perfectly crisp. Sage & Vine isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to feel looked after. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone or just craving a great meal, this spot delivers on every front.
