La Mezzaluna – CarlisleJust returned from a wonderful 2-night stay at Wheatsheaf. Great staff; really kind and helpful. A big thanks to Lucy who helped us arrange this. A lovely waitress, Isla, deserves a compliment too. Meals great; really enjoyed the steak and cheddar pie. Breakfasts really enjoyable…..wonderful scrambled eggs! Good room; spacious bathroom. So glad we managed the Fairy Steps! We’ll pay another visit.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeExcellent meal to be recommended.
Hope and Anchor – Grange-over-SandsA lovely local pub - great selection of beer , wine and other drinks. Tasty, well-presented food . Friendly staff . We had 3 great meals here - all good. Generous portions!
Pheasant Inn – KeswickThe owners went out of their way to accommodate 4 adults and 2 dogs with food and drinks and I’m glad they did the pub/restaurant had plenty of character and was fully booked the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful the menu was adequate and the food was plentiful with a good choice of ales very reasonably priced.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickLewis‘ Bistrot was recommeded to us but unfortunately didn’t live up to our expectations. Most reviews were very good., however … The veggie starter ordered wasn’t available (alternatives were suggested) and the veggie main wasn’t great either. And the prices are steep compared to other venues in the vicinity. After finishing our mains our plates weren’t cleared away and nobody asked if we’d like dessert or coffee. So we paid our bill and left. Not what could be considered excellent service. All in all a mediocre experience and a shame it didn’t match the other reviews.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereExcellent food, warm and cosy atmosphere, very attentive staff, would definitely recommend.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereThis was our third visit to the Horse and Farrier and we will be back next year! The food is always lovely and fresh. There is a beer garden to enjoy the sun. Staff are very efficient and friendly.

Adriano’s Italian Restaurant – CarlisleA lucky chance find! Great pub, very busy - always a good sign. Lovely friendly and helpful staff, food was great. Would definitely return if visiting the area.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickAmazing as always. Calamari is the best. Pizzas are so tasty. Staff are always so attentive and friendly. Fave place in Carlisle.
Sage and Vine – CarlisleLovely food as always excellent service
Adriano’s Italian Restaurant – CarlisleWe have had several excellent meals at the Horse and Farrier in recent years but this was the best one yet. The new chef is a star. All four of us chose the halibut special. It was a wonderful dish. The fish was cooked perfectly and the Mediterranean style vegetables were just right on a very warm summer evening. As for the bitter chocolate mousse with cherries! I don't usually eat dessert but this was just amazing, both rich and refreshing - a difficult act to pull off. . Not a cheap meal but very good value for food of this quality. We shall certainly be back
