Lovely restaurant with character and atmosphere. It was busy, even on a Tuesday evening, but the service was excellent - matched by the food. Really delicious. Needless to say, we shall return with family and friends.
Belluno Italian Axminster – AxminsterThis evening I brought my friends from France to your restaurant. They were so very excited to see how beautiful the setting was and how good the menu was. Then came the service- the waitress (red head) was unnecessarily rude. Because I challenged her manner was curt and brusque all the time we were there. The service was exceptionally slow and I’m not sure that this wasn’t deliberate from the waitress. I was so very disappointed. I have been to your restaurant many many times. I encourage work colleagues to have birthdays, leaving parties etc because the restaurant has always been exemplary. My heartfelt disappointment was very sad tonight, I wanted my friends to enjoy the evening but it was spoiled by one person. The food, as usual, was excellent but I’m afraid I will not come back Regards
Maritimo Wine & Tapas – PlymouthI went here with my daughter over the weekend and honestly we would not recommend it. To get in you have to ring a bell, as nobody was waiting for us and we were told they "don't want to disturb the hotel guests". The man who answered the door wasn't very welcoming, and despite our booking clearly stating this was a birthday celebration, he didn't acknowledge it at all. The wine was nice, and very expensive, but served in some sort of ludicrously oversized glasses. The tapas was really overpriced : we paid £18 for a small, dry, brown cut-up piece of pitta bread, a tiny bowl of hummus and dip, a few dry olives, and some almonds that were nice but were whisked away half eaten the moment we asked for the bill. To cap it off, you aren't even allowed to use the bathroom inside the hotel. Instead you're sent out to a wooden shack labelled the "poop room", which hardly added to the really nice, posh drink experience we had been hoping for. Not the experience we wanted, and not one we'd repeat.

We were welcomed, waited on well and had the menu explained as some interesting dishes. Our starters were excellent, as we're our mains- all cooked excellently and presented very well. We love eating at the Hour Glass and our meal was up to their high standards in a relaxing welcoming atmosphere.

The staff seemed a little under pressure at times but managed our order even after a misunderstanding on one item. Definitely recommend & planning on going again in a couple of weeks.!

We didn't sit further in, so maybe the second half of the restaurant had even more charm, Ill see next time I eat there. Portions were on the smaller size for the price. Deserts were amazing.
