Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleHad a happy hour lunch yesterday and really enjoyed 2 courses for £11 each. Very good cappuccino too. Nicely surprised to see the place filling up on a Tuesday lunchtime. Will return for steak night offer etc. soon
Farmhouse Dine & Wine – DurhamGreat pub grub and 3 course for 10er on a Monday night can’t go wrong. Great service staff and a good pint of beer. Fantastic portion sizes . Gammon cooked to perfection . Highly recommended
The Farmers Arms – DurhamBooked Sunday lunch last week at short notice. We got a lovely table for the two of us. We both had three courses at £20 each really good value. My prawn cocktail was good. Plump prawns really good. My wife had pâté again very good. I had lamb and the wife had beef. Both well cooked with good vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. The sticky toffee pudding was Devine. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Staff are friendly and efficient. The portion size was perfect. It’s a big bug bear of mine to get a plate piled high when there is so much food to feed ten people is not necessary. One small point. The lighting could be a bit brighter!!
The Farmers Arms – Durham6 of us enjoyed a fantastic meal before tackling Lumiere. The food was delicious with lots of dishes to choose from and good size portions. Good wine selection at a reasonable price Well worth a visit
Gussto Tapas Bar – DurhamCarvery food excellent. Service shockingly poor. Had to wait far too long for drinks order, which didn't turn up until nagging the disinterested staff. Desserts were put up by chef, saw him ring 3 times, we collected them ourselves. Shame as food on offer from Carvery in the whole was 1st class.
Derwent Manor Hotel – DurhamBooked for Sunday lunch & on the back of the chronicle advertising the new dog friendly Sunday menu. We turned up and the place looked shut, we walked in and weren’t greeted or welcoming, managed to find 2 young lads behind bar who said dogs weren’t allowed and if we wanted to stay we’d have to go up one at a time to get food and bring it down to eat in the dark bar. Needless to say we didn’t bother and ended up going elsewhere.
Derwent Manor Hotel – DurhamAwful!! wrong meal sent was replaced but should be called tagliatelle with chorizo as never had such small tiger prawns £15! Seafood risotto was also worst ever tiny king prawns over cooked squid and 4 mussels 2 were not open so couldn't be eaten also £15! We are not big eaters but could have eaten more. I would not pay the service charge they put on and will never go back
Pesto Italiano – DurhamLovely staff we were abot late but they had kept our table. The food was lush, the nicest potato skins and main courses was delicious too. Really nice place we definitely will be back.
Pesto Italiano – DurhamLovely cosy restaurant, warm welcome, lots of lovely choices of authentic Spanish tapas. Good portion sizes and delicious food. Couldn't have been better.
Gussto Tapas Bar – DurhamLovely atmosphere and great food, both dinner and breakfast

Farmhouse Dine & Wine – DurhamAbsolutely lovely meal .2nd time here and we be returning. Staff lovely as well
The Farmers Arms – DurhamThe dining table looked so attractive, candles completed the atmosphere. The service was excellent . Kellie in particular was really professional and nothing was too much trouble for her. The menu didn't have a massive choice and it was on the expensive side but everyone enjoyed their meal and all in all a lovely evening.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleMy wife and I had two dinners here at a recent stay in the hotel. All our food was excellent, really first rate and the service could not have been better. The atmosphere was friendly and the meals were good value for money. One main course I had, the Ox check Bourginion was the best dish I have eaten this Year!
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleI visited this hotel a few months ago for Sunday lunch and was presently surprised by my experience, enough to encourage me to return several times since, but in this short space of time since, the only thing which has gone up is the price, everything else has been a disappointment. So! I can safely conclude that I will not be returning any time soon.
