I have eaten at the Horse and Farrier a couple of times and have always found the quality and service to be amazing. Having an intolerance to onion and garlic I often find eating out challenging, but the chef is always willing to make adjustments, making sure I can have what I would like! This attests to how freshly made the food is. I look forward to every meal we have here, thank you.

Lovely people, lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Great all round. unpretentious, friendly and efficient. All at a reasonable price. Nothing more to be said.

Very happy with our recent meal, which we chose from the specials board. Impressed with the quality of the food, which was served by friendly staff. If any downside it's only the very limited parking.

We booked at the last minute but still managed to get a table for 8pm on a Friday night. Staff were very friendly, good was great. Definitely a place to go back to.

Excellent, polite friendly staff lovely food, piping hot well presented and very tasty. Would definitely recommend it and will visit there again when in Cumbria.

We've lived local many, many years. We were told the food was good there now. Tried it kast night. Absolutely lovely. This is not good pub food, it is proper gormet pub food. This guy, guys, gals, know what proper food is. I hear he's worked at Farlam Hall, that's Michelin star first year of opening kind of place. No wonder he knows. We'll be back very soon, thank you.

Unfortunately our review is not a good one. We made a booking online for 8:30pm but half the party knew they would be 10 mins late(two of us) so we gave our order to the other half to avoid any delays. We were not greeted with a warm welcome and told that the chef was “doing us a favour” in staying late as he had been on an early! How the internal rotas are the fault of the customer who picked the online seating option is beyond me. So the starter and main came all together and the quality reflected that the chef wanted to get away. After the food we wanted to stay for another drink but were the only ones left and we asked the girl if she was waiting to go home which she replied “actually I am”. Hasten to add we certainly will not be returning to this pub which is a shame as we have family just up the road and though this would be our regular when we stay.

Two enjoyable, one night stays on our way to and from Scotland. Our food on both occasions was excellent. Staff friendly. We will be back

We were a party of four. The restaurant was quiet at the time of our booking. The service was fantastic . The restaurant and toilets were clean . We all enjoyed our meals and would happily return for another meal.

We had a late booking for dinner,staff friendly and the atmosphere was good. Food was great ,all four of us had different meals and all were delicious . Could highly recommend the food

It’s been a beautiful, warm and sunny weekend at Ullswater Yacht Club just a couple of miles away from the Horse and Farrier, where we book a meal regularly on a Saturday evening after a good day sailing. Four of us regularly eat there ; this weekend the food was exceptional- between us we had the slow cooked beef ragu, chicken breast , hasselback potatoes, English asparagus , pan fried stone bass and bacon chop with black pudding and twice cooked chips- all exceptional and perfect in amount and tastes. We wee then tempted by the dessert menu - but often try to resist- honey parfait with rhubarb! All absolutely delicious. Lovely wines too. Thankyou and see you again soon!

Was slightly worried when I noted that the H&F was up for sale on google. However after our excellent meals I was advised that the owner had decided not to sell. The food was inventive, with quality ingredients - the chef was obviously a talent to cherish. Finally the manager? and young waitress were great working really hard to service a busy evening.

Excellent Sunday Lunch! We usually go in the evenings and the food is always good. Sunday lunch proved to be even better.

We can not fault this restaurant in any way. Service is friendly, attentive and prompt. Atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. Food is awesomely good. Very pleasant evening enjoyed in celebration of my husband’s birthday. Would not hesitate to recommend and will certainly use again.
