Whenever we are down for a holiday in Maentwrog we always make sure to dine at Y Sgwar at least once if not twice. Nice surroundings, pleasant staff & very good food. I do not hesitate to recommend this little gem in North Wales.

Lovely evening meal from the Early Bird menu to celebrate a birthday with family. As ever, we had a friendly welcome, service was excellent and food was plentiful and attractively presented. We always enjoy visiting Y Sgwar.

Starters lovely Pork was so incredibly dry. Also £26 for a small piece of god and 3 cherry tomatoes! Main courses generally bland. Shame because it’s such a lovely place. Hopefully we just caught them on a bad day.

The food was fantastic and the service too. The staff were so helpful and there was an extensive choice of dessert without dairy . Mine looked and tasted so good . Thank you for a lovely meal

We visited the Victoria Inn based on the experience of a friend. The food was very nice but not outstanding however it did arrive quite quickly. The menu offered plenty of options. The service was average but I wouldn’t say it was bad. The atmosphere was very busy, noisy and seemed almost chaotic. Access to the bar was partly blocked by people sitting and standing by the bar. Not a bad visit like anything else it’s subjective and it depends on what you like. Probably won’t suit everyone but you can’t please everyone. As I say our visit wasn’t bad but if we were in the area again we would probably look for somewhere else.

Been a while. I’ve tried other restaurants in the area. This is now my go to. Staff well trained and the food was top notch. Hats off to the owners.

We visited Y Sgwar on Tuesday 24 June after being recommended to the restaurant by family and friends. It was our first visit there and upon arrival at 7.15 the restaurant was very busy. A lovely bubbly lady by the name of Nia showed us to our table and asked if we would like drinks whilst perusing the menu. I chose my summer drink of Pimm’s and lemonade and it was served with lots of delicious fruit in it. I chose the scallops with pork belly for my starter which was beautifully presented and very tasty. My husband chose the scotch egg which had black pudding in it., which he thoroughly enjoyed. For our main courses I chose the supreme of chicken served with a mushroom sauce , pommes dauphinoise and some lovely green veg. My husband chose the cod in a red curry sauce. Both were delicious my husband chose the vanilla and raspberry cheesecake for dessert served with vanilla ice cream. I chose the lemon meringue tart with a blackcurrant sorbet. I could not fault the service or the presentation of the meal and we will definitely be returning . All the staff were very attentive and fully aware what was happening at all times in the restaurant. Could not fault. Do give this restaurant a try you will not be disappointed.

We booked for Sunday lunch, and were pleasantly surprised with the choice and the speed our lunch was delivered. Piping hot food, great Yorkshire puddings and really friendly service.

The setting was lovely, good service, but the chicken was Very scarce in the Tagatelli I'm afraid I was rather dissapointed, meal was tasty, but 3 to 4 chunks of chicken is rather limited for a £15 meal.
