Very expensive, almost unreasonable. £14 for 3 prawns for a starter? On both occasions, breakfast and dinner we waited up to an hour for our food. This really let it down. Wouldn’t choose to eat/stay again.
Rothay Garden Hotel – GrasmereSea bass fillet was excellent; other than that our table of four was disappointed in the meal and to some extent the service, which was less warm than what we experienced elsewhere in the UK. Scallops were mediocre, as was the curry as the vegetables were overcooked. The side dish of veggies that accompanied our sea bass was also overcooked to the point of being inedible. Would not recommend.

The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeIf you want a piping hot, tasty Sunday lunch this is the place for you. Honestly, if we lived closer we wouldn’t bother ever cooking Sunday lunch again. We would just pop into the Greyhound Inn. The manager and staff were just lovely and it’s very dog friendly. We loved it here.

Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereWent yesterday evening for dinner, booking is recommended as it gets quite busy. Welcoming pleasant staff, table was ready on arrival. Food and drinks are reasonably priced and of excellent quality too. Starters dinner desserts and beer and wine for 2, £79. Will definitely be back soon. A hidden gem of a restaurant and would recommend to visit if in Carlisle too.

Great to see a gluten free beer on tap and Gf peroni. Lots of options for gluten intolerant diets but we didn't enquire about how they cater for coeliacs.
Glen Rothay Hotel and Badger Bar – RydalSo impressed with the food - restaurant quality at pub prices. Haven’t eaten here before but will definitely be back on our next trip to the Lakes.

Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithEnjoyed our first visit. Food and service very good. Not as good for me on our second visit. Please review your Thai style curry. Too sweet with no depth of flavour. Strange combination of vegetables, and too many stringy mange tout. Didn't eat it and wasn't asked by the young waitress why . Restaurant was full and tables close together, didn't want to cause a fuss. Disappointed. Hope however, my opinion on this dish is useful?
