Visited on Xmas Eve. Good welcome and staff were friendly, amiable and professional in waiting on us. Food was excellent - the best scallop starters in terms of size and tasted in a long while. Good advice given re choosing an individual steak or a sharing one. Chose the latter on best value for money and weight. Ordered medium rare - perfection. We shall return.

Having booked a table at Water Rat for Sunday lunch, along we went with snow falling and I’m not sorry we took the chance. Lunch was extremely good plenty of it too. Staff very nice and served us well. We weren’t rushed at all , had two coffees sitting in comfy sofas by the fire. Can’t wait to return.

Really enjoyed our meal it was so warm and staff were really friendly and service brilliant food was really very enjoyable steak cooked to perfection.

Had a very good meal on Friday 2nd January after a walk along the Montgomery Canal. The menu was different from the usual fare offered by a lot of pubs nowadays and was presented nicely. My enchiladas were nicely spicy and were clearly homemade, and were accompanied with a decent salad and ( unnecessary) chips; there was already plenty of carbs on the plate. My wife’s chicken burger was perfectly cooked and had good sides. All were courteously served and were decent value for money.

Myself and partner thought we would give the last inn a try… we are so glad we did every bit of the food tastes lovely.. the puddings were just as good as the main meals too…

We booked just after New Year and at the beginning of opening time, not sure I would do this again, as it was quite a large open space and with us and only another couple of diners there really wasn’t much of an atmosphere and the it was very cold even though we were next to a radiator. They didn’t have what we wanted due to having no delivery’s over the festive period (we were informed) so we had to reorder and this took an exceptionally long time to arrive a little strange as we were the only ones being served. The food however was very good indeed and for this reason alone I would go back, but I would book at another time of day.

Was really disappointed yesterday. We always come to the swan for family meals but loads has changed. My son ordered the brisket which was at least 2/3 less than when we last came!!. The burnt ends were bigger but we got less. My partner had pit master burger but he said the meat was tasteless and dry. My wings were overcooked. My daughter ordered garlic bread which had no garlic on it. Service was good but thumbs down on the food guys. I don't know what happened??

The steak was superb, cooked to perfection, the pie was delicious & so was the sea bass, sides were also fabulous! Lovely venue to dine in & atmosphere was just right. However, the service was second to none - just brilliant, attentive but not suffocating, offered table water upon seating & brought replacement carafes as soon as asked, lovely polite & informed staff, we couldn’t have had better service. Thank you!

Fantastic food couldn't fault anything, the duck spring rolls off the sharer were delicious and very well prepared. Followed by a gorgeous, succulent ribeye steak and beef dripping chips the mac and cheese was the best iv ever had. We were seated in a colder part of the restaurant to start with but once we moved we were lot warmer.

Have visited the Swan several times and once again had a great time. Food as always was very good. Staff were friendly and efficient. Always value for money.

We booked a few months ago for a table of 4 for 30th December upon arrival taken to our table food was excellent and so was the service lovely spot to visit when in Irnbridge,

I have been to the Water Rat many times over the last few years and it is still one of my favourite places to eat. The actual place is nice, its location, service and decor is very good. I like the choices of food and that you are happy for me to order off the Childrens Menu if needed- this is a real bonus, so many places refuse to let adults have a child portion meal. one thing I have often though is that maybe restaurants should rename the childrens food options to Smaller Meals, or Lighter Appetites, this would then enable anyone to order what portion they want . There is no logic in restricting adults to adult portions nor children to children portions, we all have differing appetites as we age# So Well done to the Water Rat for at least accepting I can order from the Childrens Menu.

New Year’s Day lunch Needed heating as radiator not working. Fan eater helped and place warmed up as more people arrived. Service a bit slow about 3/4 hour Meal very good except the Thai curry that we asked to add chicken as per menu was two pieces of breast meat just added on the plate, not curried or anything. . Curry part nice flavour though. Hostess and staff very welcoming and atmosphere friendly. Fish and chips/ veggie kebabs and burger meals excellent.

I had the sirloin steak at Ribeye, served with fries, mushrooms, and tomatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender, and full of flavour, with crisp fries and nicely balanced sides. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, making it an enjoyable place to sit and enjoy a proper steak. Overall, a satisfying meal in a great setting and the chef very handsome.

New Year’s Eve at Surees was perfection - great banter, exquisite food and super service. We love it here and can’t wait for next time!

The food was lovely, the staff were amazing so welcoming and helpful! Will return definitely. We ate there Christmas eve !
