Beautiful setting, scrumptious food, caring friendly host + staff. Sunday lunch was so delicious, I never even asked for my "sharp knife" as the beef was so tender, as was the pork. Varied tasty vegetables, plus all the trimmings ensured our Sunday lunch was superb. Sadly we were too full for the variety of desserts we saw.. a lovely local place, with great value. Highly recommend.

We have visited The golden Ball several times in the last eighteen months and have always loved it. Great old pub atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff and great food. So last Sunday we took two good friends with us, to sample the pub. What a disappointment! It seemed you were short staffed, so service was pretty so, so. All with a smile and lots of apologies. But not what we had experienced in the past. Have you changed cooks or suppliers? Because the meal, when it arrived - was at best, average! The beef and roast ham were very tough. The battered cod was 'soggy' and quite small. We may have been interested in a desert. But we waited at least 20/30mins for the table to be cleared after our lunch, that none of us could be bothered and we left. What ever has happened in the kitchen recently, is not good. Our experience in the past has been big plates of tasty, well cooked food. Tender meat carved in the kitchen, served with tasty, hot sides. Something has gone wrong. Very disappointing.

We had a great lunch at the Golden Ball this Sunday. There were 3 of us plus a dog and we were well looked after, even the dog had a spcial meal provided ! As a vegetarian I often dread the limited options available, but although limited in choice the option was delicious. My companions had a traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings and pronounced it very tasty. Lovely attentive service from our waitress. Fair prices and a cool room inside on a very hot day was very welcome. Excellent.

Had a lovely evening for a birthday celebration. Food was great and prices mid range but would have been better if the younger staff were trained better and were dressed more for serving food rather than a winters night round the fire.

Would not recommend! Walked in and had no one greet us just had to stand around until someone came past which took about 10 minutes. Waited 1 1/2 hours for our starters, wouldn't mind if it was busy but it was us and 2 other tables. Ordered brisket for main and was told half an hour after ordering that there was no more brisket, don't see why it took so long to let us know. Would have ordered dessert as they sounded delicious but as we were already there for 2 and a half hours we decided to go home.

Our afternoon is was excellent,if you want something a little different from sandwiches. The savory dishes were just perfect. Thank you to our host who was very cheerful and very attentive. Would certainly 100% recommend the afternoon tea. Excellent. Thank you

We booked a meal here on Saturday. All I can say is that it was perfect. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Lovely atmosphere to a lovely country pub. We will definitely be visiting again

I’m afraid we can’t comment on the food as we didn’t get that far. We waited for ten minutes, being told successively that someone would be with us soon, before even being shown to our seat. We then waited another 30 minutes for someone to take our food order - a number of serving staff were busy chatting and clearly not interested in doing their job, so we left and went for tapas up the road instead. Appalling service - if the young kids on the floor are not being taught how to value their customers, there is something clearly amiss with this pub’s management.

Excellent service from all the staff, it's a lovely place

We were welcomed by the lovely staff at the door and the place was well lit, air conditioned despite the hot day and had a nice buzz about the place. Our waiter, didn't catch his name (the receipt said Ash so possibly him?) was an absolute darling. Really charming and professional. Clearly was quite rushed off his feet (Think they were understaffed and he was carrying them to be honest) but did his absolute best to be attentive and friendly. Even made us laugh when it came to the bill when I made a joke about working in finance and still can barely do maths and he mentioned having the same problems despite doing his A Level. Food was wonderful, quick service with that and we did have to chase up the bill as we wanted to enjoy the great band playing next door. Bar was well ran and well stocked the event played really well and it was a wonderful evening all round honestly. Will definitely come again.

Really disappointing experience. After waiting for 45 mins we noticed people who had come in afterwards were being served food. Obviously the manager who had taken or order had forgotten to put in the order. After complaining without any apologies the meal eventually arrived. To be very honest my taco vegetarian dish was delicious and very hot - just what I like. Unfortunately my partner who also likes hot food was pissed off as his steak bits in the tacos were cold - ??? We sent it back- they said we'll sort and after about 10 minutes it came back colder than ever. My partner rejected the food and although they didn't charge us for his meal we still spent £70 on a spoiled evening. You need to change your manager as she was rubbish!

Lovely staff, food was amazing very good value for money

Great home cooked food and pricing was very fair. Could do with deserts on specials board as well as main courses to give more variety. Plenty of ice cream dishes but that’s only great if you’re an ice cream lover.

Brilliant food and great service would highly recommend. The staff are lovely and the food is brilliant value for money.
