Southport's brand-new four star Ramada Plaza Hotel has a fantastic location, close to busy Lord Street but enjoying splendid views out over the Irish Sea. Liverpool's Prego Restaurant is ideally situated close to Aintree racecourse and the Switch Island junction of the M57 and M58. It's a spacious and airy venue with a cocktail bar and restaurant and space for 250 diners. The owner hails from southern Italy and the Italian/Mediterranean menu has a southern Italian influence. There is a range of speciality pizzas prepared in an authentic wood-stone pizza oven including a sweet pizza made with marshmallows and nutella. Lots of pasta options too, including seafood choices. Drink options include Italian beers, cocktails prepared by a resident 'mixologist' and an extensive wine list including a special champagne selection from Veuve Clicquot. Prego is open for lunch and dinner Monday to Friday and all-day Saturday and Sunday. There are some good-value dining offers and a cabaret night every last Thursday of the month.

The Coterie is located in Widnes just of the A557. This well established neighbourhood restaurant is run by husband and wife team David and Christine Tearle, both passionate about food and hospitality. Coterie translates as a circle of friends and that's exactly what you feel like when you are in the restaurant, you are treated like an old friend and you can use this warm and inviting venue in many ways; drop in day or night for a light bite from the wine bar that has a fantastic selection of fantastic freshly baked bread, gourmet cheese, tapas, simple hearty fayre and extensive wine list. Dine in the main restaurant with its open fire and farmhouse kitchen feel, choosing from the great value Table d'Hote menu or the more accomplished A la Carte. 'The Orangery' is a seperate space used for meetings and functions as well as for more contemporary dining in a setting with dark wood tables and modern leather chairs. Whichever you choose, David and his team of eight chefs are producing great food using top quality produce and cooking with passion and Christine adopts a relaxed, professional and friendly efficiency. Sunday lunch here is a local favourite. Open Tuesday-Saturday 12-2.30pm for lunch and 6-9.30pm for dinner. Sunday lunch 12-3.15 and dinner 6-9pm.
