Excellent food and service at competitive prices. The prawn cocktail and Fish pie were both very good with generous portions of quality ingredients.

Pheasant Inn – KeswickWe have eaten at the Wheatsheaf a couple of times recently, after a long absence due to a poor experience in the past. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the renovations, and the friendly welcome we received. There was a nice ambiance, with candles on the tables, and the service was friendly and relaxed. I recently had the battered plaice and chips, which was very tasty, and a generous portion, while my wife was very complementary about her roast dinner. The pale ale was good, but I thought overpriced at £6.50 a pint! On the whole, a very pleasant evening.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeWe stayed one night and had an evening meal and breakfast. The food was amazing and the choice at breakfast was brilliant - you don't often see avacado on toast with poached eggs as an alternative. The lentil curry with rice at night was the nicest I've ever had. We had stayed in two other hotels in the north west on previous nights and this was the best for food by far.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeLovely pub with a great friendly service. We had a Sunday lunch and the food was excellent.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithLovely, friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff. We ate here on 2 consecutive nights as the menu was so good. We thoroughly enjoyed both meals. The sea bass fillets were cooked to perfection and the presentation was very good. Staff were extremely efficient and patient on both very busy nights. Will visit again when in the area.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickWe had a lovely lunch for our wedding anniversary service was good and food was excellent
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleWe were looking forward to our Sunday lunch at Harry's Cafe Bar having eaten in the cafe at other times and been happy with what we had. However on this occasion all 4 of us were disappointed with the meal. We had the roast beef which arrived on our plate under a standard sized Yorkshire pudding, the impression being that they wanted to hide the fact that there was only one slice of beef which also carried a significant rim of fat thus reducing even further the edible portion to a few mouthfuls. For £20 a head that represents very poor value for money and whilst tender, the quality did not compensate at all for the miniscule quantity. 2 slices of beef would have been an appropriate serving in line with the price and to balance the vegetables on offer. These generally were well prepared and interesting although there could again have been more on offer given a party size of 4 adults. It was also disappointing that only one dessert was on offer and if not chosen then the only other option was a scone or a slice of cake. Again, not what you might consider to be a traditional Sunday Lunch. We won't be repeating this experience.
Harry’s Cafe Bar at Yew Tree Barn – Grange-over-SandsGreat pub / hotel. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cosy and warm and the staff were very attentive and helpful. Everything was reasonably priced as well, Our room was clean and exactly what we needed, added bonus with them being dog friendly as well. The breakfast was very good also! Very happy and would stay there again.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeWe had two visits in one week we were so impressed. Initially as a couple and then six of us on a golf tour. The food and service were excellent from the starters to the dessert. All six had Sticky Toffee Pudding along with the recommended sticky toffee pudding vodka
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithFabulous home cooked Sunday lunch and proper puddings. Couldn’t fault it!
Pheasant Inn – KeswickWe had a lovely meal at the Queens Head on Saturday night. The pub is cosy and welcoming with a roaring log fire. The staff were very pleasant and the food was delicious. Good choices for veggies, we had leek and potato pie followed by apple crumble. We enjoyed every mouthful. Would definitely recommend.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithVery pleasant evening meal. Hearty food. Ideal after a weekend running the Lakeland Trails. Friendly, sociable atmosphere as the pub was packed with happy diners in warm, comfortable surroundings. Enjoyed the Fish Pie, although it was a tough choice as I also fancied the Venison Bourguignon. Apple and Gooseberry Crumble was lovely. Good selection of Ales, particularly enjoyed the Pheasant Ale. Will return.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickWe came here for my big sister's birthday lunch. We were a bit disappointed to find very little for vegans on the menu, but honestly the staff couldn't do enough for us. They were absolutely amazing - so attentive and kind. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service could not be bettered. Thankyou folk, great job!
Pheasant Inn – KeswickLovely welcome, great service interesting decor but….. The soup was fine The battered fish special was skin on ( no warning on the menu) The crumble was solid and soggy with little fruit The coffee was fine Good range of non Alcoholic beers The cost would have been fine if the food had been better.
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeWe all enjoyed our meals and the service was very good.
