Six weeks ago, I personally visited the restaurant to book a table for a 30th birthday celebration. I wanted to have a face-to-face discussion with the owner to go over specific details, including our preferred table location and room. This was crucial because we had previously experienced a less-than-ideal dining situation in the bar area previously. Despite that, some members of our group were eager to celebrate at this restaurant, and I was willing to give them another chance based on my prior experience. During my conversation with the owner, he was engaging and seemed genuinely committed to making our 30th birthday party a success. FAST FORWARD 6 WEEKS on the day of the celebration, I arrived at the venue with balloons and cake one hour before our booking slot, only to be told that we wouldn’t be seated in the agreed-upon area. Instead, they had taken another booking (a baby shower) that was deemed more financially beneficial, despite my reservation being made weeks earlier. I had not been notified of this by anyone from CDJ despite the time and effort I had put in with the owner to make sure all the detail was covered. Disappointingly, CDJ's approach was we would just be sat anywhere when we our party turned up… The response I received was disappointing: I was told, “You can all sit here,” pointedly in the bar area that I had specifically requested to avoid due to my past experience. After advocating for our case, I was met with indifference—“there’s nothing we can do about it.” Fortunately, we quickly found a new venue, The Retreat Bromley Cross, where we had a fantastic experience. The Sunday dinner platter was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, all at half the price of what we would have spent at CDJ for the very same food... I’m grateful to CDJ for inadvertently leading us to discover The Retreat. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Retreat (Bromley Cross) it as a modern, trendy food haven—a perfect spot for socialising and enjoying a meal.
