This was our second visit to the restaurant. On both occasions the food was excellent and the service very friendly and efficient. There was a good atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome.

Had a meal last night, have eaten here many times never been disappointed before, however I ordered the halloumi portobello mushroom burger WITH mayonnaise. I felt what was served to me was mayonnaise with mushroom and halloumi - complete overkill with mayonnaise, so much so the mushroom and tomato shot out of the bun as soon as i tried to eat it, this was after i had scraped off as much mayonnaise as i could. The waitress came and asked was everything OK with our meal. I told her while the food was good, I couldn't actually enjoy my burger as it was completely smothered in a thick layer of mayonnaise. She apologised saying she would pass my comments onto the chef, I then heard her tell who I presume was the bar manager, no apology or mention from him my concerns when we paid the bill. If was my birthday I cant say i enjoyed my meal that much,. Also we were put on table 9 which felt like we were sitting in a cupboard at the side of the stairs, so not really feeling any atmosphere. Never had a problem before but last night wasn't really a pleasant meal, which is a shame as previously I've never had a problem here.

Out for our Anniversary meal. Never seems to disappoint. Yummy food, well priced, great attentive staff. Definitely will be back.

Had meal here Saturday evening, straight away we were seen to and taken to our table. The young girls that served us were very friendly and attentive. Food itself was amazing as always Will be back soon. Thank you.

Charming old pub full of history and very elegant yet down to earth place. Room was beautiful and very comfy bed . Do not hesitate to book to stay here! You will really enjoy it.Staff can't do enough and all are very friendly. Food was really lovely.I had salmon which was cooked perfectly.Breakfast was even better,hot,well cooked and veggie sausage best ever eaten. Whole place full of character and great atmosohere. Very dog friendly and our dog had a fab time too! We are definitely going to return.

Lovely evening meal with the family - 4 adults & 2 children at Lewis bistro. Friendly, family rub feel with excellent food. Nothing was too much trouble in terms of service.

Came for a meal with friends on Saturday evening. We’d booked in advance and sat in the bar area which is dog friendly. Lovely pub with an open fire which was perfect with snow falling outside! The food was delicious, I had the meat pie with veg and chips which was so nice. Sticky toffee pudding was amazing but too big for me to finish. If you are after a proper Lakeland pub with great food I’d look no further. Thank you.

We booked in as a family of 8 for Thai on a Saturday night, the food was incredible, as good as being in Thailand itself. We really enjoyed it, all the staff were brilliant and really helpful. Thank you

Saturday night was our second visit to Grants and it did not disapoint. We both had the fillet steak which was perfectly cooked. The service was excellent with very friendly and attentive staff. We've tried a few places in Penrith and I'd say this is the best. Lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

What can I say, food excellent, service the same very attentive staff, no wonder it's always popular, well done.

Superb food and service in a lovely environment, and very dog friendly which is a bonus.

The afternoon tea lived up to expectations based on the reviews we had read and also from the website. Well worth the money for a 'different' delicious afternoon tea - service was great too. A bit of a hidden gem we think!

A warm welcome at the Wheatsheaf and good service. Excellent Sunday lunch with loads of well cooked veg.

This was our first visit for several years so we were not sure what to expect. When we arrived the place was buzzing. Very busy, as we imagined it would be, so we settled in for a long wait for food but in the end it wasn’t too long before ours arrived. We had opted for the beef Sunday lunch and were very glad we did. The beef was thickly sliced, lean and well cooked, just as we like it. It came with roasties, mash and a Yorkshire pudding. A good selection of veg came separately and a jug of gravy. All in all the lunch was brilliant and could not be faulted. The service was excellent, especially considering how busy the place was and we would have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending The Pheasant. We will certainly be back. Well done to all concerned.

Serving staff were very attentive. Me and my wife both went for the Chicken Pie. The pie, although a little dry, was very good and crammed with chicken. Some of my chips had been cut from from a rotten potato, black streaks on the inside, my wife's were good. I thought it was a couple of pounds overpriced. Disaster when it came to paying as you have to pay at the bar, it took 20 minutes, they need to fix this.

Very cosy ye old nooks and crannies place and staff were very friendly. Loved the fact that dogs were allowed. The food was lovely… we had Sunday lunch and there was 3 choices as well as veg options and it was plenty … however the beef and lamb was a little tough to cut but pleasant to eat and I know veg should be al dente but when you have falsies it’s a bit difficult when you bite into the tender stems!! Would definitely return however as would love to try the dishes through the week too
